After it was previously announced that Michael van Gerwen would not compete in the Swiss Darts Trophy 2025 this weekend, three more cancellations were announced on Thursday for the Euro Tour tournament in Switzerland.
With the announcement of the draw for the Euro Tour tournament in Basel, it became clear that Gary Anderson, Gerwyn Price and Cameron Menzies have also withdrawn. The PDC did not give a reason for their cancellations.
For Anderson, it is already his fourth Euro Tour tournament in a row for which he is withdrawing. The Scot had won the European Darts Grand Prix earlier this year and reached the final of the Baltic Sea Darts Open in July. That was also his last Euro Tour entry of the season. Price was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal against Luke Littler in Hungary last week because of illness. It seems 'The Iceman' is not yet fit enough to play a tournament.
As a result of these cancellations, Richard Veenstra, Connor Scutt, Mensur Suljovic and Chris Landman were called up to still compete in the Swiss Darts Trophy. They were the highest-ranked players who had lost their matches in the final round at the qualifying tournament for Tour Card holders. The four cancellations also affected the formation of the seeding list, where some players moved up a spot. This freed up some places at the bottom, so Gian van Veen, Mike De Decker and Ryan Searle are now among the top-16 seeded players.
