'I love the big stage! It’s where I deserve to be' - Scott Williams searching for top form in 2025
PDC

Scott Williams has had a mixed campaign in 2025, but he's made significant strides compared to last year. This season, however, he has played many of his matches behind closed doors — a setting that clearly doesn’t suit him. Williams thrives on crowd interaction and the atmosphere of the stage, and the lack of both has noticeably affected his game.

When asked about his season by the Daily Star, Williams was honest. "Probably not the best," he admitted. "I joke with people that if all events were on the stage I’d be top 12 easy, because of who I am. I react to the crowd, it’s the way I am!"

"I‘m so nonchalant, and that’s how I look at the game! I love being on the stage, it’s where I like to be, and it’s where I deserve to be a lot of the time - but if I’m not performing I’m not going to get there!" continues the former PDC World Darts Championship semifinalist. "Especially with the new money increases all over the place, it’s even bigger than it was."

"Now, I can get the £15,000 without having to win my first game - which is tough sometimes when you’re playing some of the best amateurs in the world! I go into the year saying that anything else is a bonus at the minute! Hopefully in a couple of years, I’ll be looking at the Matchplay and the Grand Prix!" Williams adds.

He admits this has been his best season to date without a live audience — but also acknowledges the unique challenge that environment presents, one he simply doesn’t face on the big stage. "The floor is game is hard because there’s no crowd and no atmosphere in there, there’s nothing I can work off, nothing I can thrive on," he explains. “I’m figuring out a way to put that aside and get the best out of myself and when I find that I’ll be on the TV more!”
