'I’m a fighter, I’m a warrior': Nathan Aspinall battles back into Premier League play-off contention

Nathan Aspinall has battled his way to fourth place in the Premier League Darts in recent weeks, allowing 'The Asp' to dream of participating in the playoffs at the end of May. During the tenth round of play, the Englishman took the weekly title in Manchester by dealing with Rob Cross, Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries.

The two-time major winner has had an excellent period. Last month he won his very first Euro Tour title at the European Darts Trophy in Göttingen, after which he also reached the final at the International Darts Open in Riesa. Furthermore, Aspinall reached the final match at Players Championship 13 this week.

“Five weeks ago, I was really struggling, but the last three weeks have proved why I'm still playing,” declared Aspinall, a Premier League runner-up in 2020.

“I've been through a horrendous two years but I'm a fighter; I’m a warrior.

Aspinall went through a difficult period, where injury and disappointing results plagued him. Yet he always kept fighting.

“I don't know when I'm beaten and I'm in a privileged position doing a job I love. I keep fighting to the end and I will never give up.

In any case, self-confidence is in good shape with "The Asp," who, in his current form, looks like another serious contender for a spot in the prestigious final night.

“I’m feeling confident, and the thing is with me, when I'm a confident player and scoring well, there's not many people in the world of darts that can beat me.”

Thursday night Aspinall will be in action during the 11th round of Premier League Darts play at Rotterdam, a venue he also has fond memories of. The darter from Stockport managed to take the weekly title in the Dutch port city each of the past two editions.
