'I'm probably going to look to change it again this year' - Rob Cross opens door to a different walk-on song during Q&A

A former world champion and World Matchplay winner, Rob Cross has achieved a lot of success over the course of his career. As such, the Englishman is well placed to offer advice for those looking to take the next step and become a pro darter themselves.

In conversation with Sky Sports, Cross was asked a series of questions from, fans at home. First up was the question: Are all dart players good at maths or do you learn by habit? "i think it's like a number crunching thing. It's patterns," he answers. "So when when it comes down to counting, you seem to hit a lot of the same numbers all the time, and it becomes sort of natural, like second nature."

Next up, the question: Do darts players have to take extra care of their hands? "I should do," Cross laughs. "There is an element that you have to take care of your hands, and you have to look after yourself. Because they are the tools of your job. So yeah, I would imagine everyone has to take care."

For many up and coming dart players, the feeling is that practice is key. Cross though, admits he doesn't practice much when answering the question: Do darts players have specific training sessions? "For the younger guys, I seem to notice their training sessions are very long. They do a lot of hours in a day," Cross begins his answer. "For me, I like to work on my doubles. So I do two doubles out of three, going around the board, starting at Double 1 and finishing on bullseye. Usually takes around 25 minutes to half an hour."

And if you ever do make it professional, two important factors to note are the nickname you have, and the walk on song you choose. "I would imagine there would be rules," 'Voltage' says about choosing a nickname. "If it was an offensive nickname, I saw one quite recently which we're not going to say the nickname (Owen 'The Master' Bates), but yeah, a lot of people would have found it offensive."

As for a walk on song? "At the minute, my little girl kept playing the song and she loved it. And I really fancied a change, because I had my other walk on music for seven years. So that's how I picked it," Cross explains. "I'm probably going to look to change it again this year," he adds though.
