'I’ve played with the likes of Phil Taylor & Eric Bristow' - Evergreen Gary Anderson proves he can still compete with the best, taking European Darts Grand Prix 2025 title

Gary Anderson has successfully defended his title at the European Darts Grand Prix. The 54-year-old Scot produced a commanding 8-0 victory over Andrew Gilding in the final in Sindelfingen.

On his way to the final, Anderson defeated Rob Cross, Martin Lukeman, and Dirk van Duijvenbode on Sunday. In the decider, he made light work of Gilding, who had clearly used up his best darts in earlier rounds.

‘The Flying Scotsman’ thus retains the title he won last year at the European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen. It marks his third career title on the European Tour — having also lifted the German Darts Championship trophy in 2014. With this win, Anderson also climbs back up to 14th in the PDC Order of Merit.

Afterwards, Anderson was understandably pleased. “I’m just glad that I can still come and play darts and compete with these boys,” he said in his on-stage interview after the final. It’s also a second ranking title of the year for the Scot, having already claimed a Players Championship earlier in the season.

Anderson has been a fixture at the top of the darts world for decades, witnessing generations of players come and go. “I’ve played darts for over 30 years. I’ve played with the likes of Phil Taylor, Eric Bristow, and so many great players over the years," he explains. “These youngsters that are coming through now, the likes of Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Gian van Veen – darts is in a fantastic place.”

Finally, Anderson paid tribute to the crowd in Sindelfingen. “I’m a very proud Scotsman and I get a lot of support in Scotland, but this has outdone them,” admitted the two-time world champion. “It’s been absolutely fantastic. It’s been a long time since I’ve had so much support.”

The European Tour now takes a short break before resuming on May 23–25 with the Dutch Darts Championship in Rosmalen.
