Jeff Smith emerged victorious in the opening week of the new MODUS Super Series season, sealing the title on Saturday night with a narrow 4-3 win over Danny Ayres in the final. With the win, the Canadian — known as “The Silencer” — secures his place at Champions Week later this season, where he will compete for the overall series crown and the £25,000 grand prize.
The final night of action began with two groups of three players each battling it out in a mini round-robin format. Smith was drawn into Group A, where he edged both of his matches 4-3 — first defeating Ayres and then overcoming Gary Stone. Ayres, meanwhile, earned his spot in the semi-finals with a 4-2 win over Stone, finishing second in the group.
In Group B, James Hubbard impressed with two commanding victories, dispatching David Evans 4-2 before cruising past Tommy Morris 4-1. Evans secured the final semi-final spot with a 4-1 win over Morris.
In the knockout stage, Smith continued his strong form, beating Evans 4-2 to reach the final. Ayres joined him with a 4-2 victory over Hubbard, setting up a rematch between the two Group A rivals. Once again, it was Smith who had the edge, edging a tightly contested final 4-3 to take the Week One title.
The MODUS Super Series is a weekly darts competition featuring 12 players competing across six days. Each week begins on Monday with six players forming Group A. They face each other once across the first three days. The top player from Group A advances directly to the final night.
The second and third-placed players from Group A move into Group B, joined by three new entrants. They compete on Thursday and Friday, with the top three progressing to the final night. Meanwhile, the bottom three from Group A enter Group C alongside another set of three new players. Two players from Group C also advance to Saturday’s finals.
Finals Night begins at 10 p.m. and features a mini group stage with two groups of three players. The top two from each group proceed to the semi-finals, culminating in a final to crown the weekly champion.
After twelve weeks of competition, each weekly winner returns for "Champions Week" — held every 13th week — where they battle for the overall series title and the £25,000 grand prize.
