The 27th Players Championship of the year was finished last Wednesday in Hildesheim, Germany. The final victory went to Joe Cullen, who defeated Gerwyn Price 8-7 in a thrilling and entertaining final.
For Cullen, it was already his second title this year on the Players Championship circuit. Earlier he also won the fifth Players Championship of 2025 by beating Gian van Veen 8-7 in the final. 'The Rockstar' had also previously reached the final at the first tournament, but then lost 8-3 to Rob Cross.
Cullen is only the fifth player to have managed to win at least two Players Championships this year. Gerwyn Price leads the list with four title. 'The Iceman' started 2025 excellently by winning the second Players Championship, beating Chris Dobey 8-7 in the final. He then also won the ninth tournament by beating Ian White 8-4 in the final. This was followed by titles in Players Championship 12 (8-7 win against Josh Rock) and Players Championship 26 (8-5 win against Van Veen).
Like Cullen, Stephen Bunting (Players Championship 18 and 25), Damon Heta (Players Championship 13 and 20) and Chris Dobey (Players Championship 3 and 17) also won two Players Championships already this year. There are also 15 more players who won one tournament each.
The Players Championship now lies dormant for a few weeks and pulls itself together again on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when the 28th tournament of the year is scheduled at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester. Exactly one month later, the 34th and final tournament of the year will take place in Wigan. As the apotheosis, the 64 best players on the Players Championship Order of Merit qualify for the Players Championship Finals from Nov. 21 to 23 at Butlin's Minehead.
Joe Cullen is the 5th player to win more than one Players Championship tournament this year.
