The 2025 Baltic Sea Darts Open gets underway this afternoon in Kiel, Germany – the ninth stop on this year’s European Tour. Among the headline names in action is Jonny Clayton, who begins his campaign as the third seed and will be chasing a fourth Euro Tour crown.
The Welshman already boasts European Tour titles from the Austrian Darts Open in both 2018 and 2023, along with this year’s Dutch Darts Championship. But this weekend marks another unique milestone in his career.
By being seeded third in Kiel, Clayton completes the rare feat of having held every single seeding position – from 1 through to 16 – on the European Tour. Only one other player in PDC history has achieved the same: fellow Welshman and former world number one Gerwyn Price.
It’s a testament to Clayton’s longevity and consistency at the top level. While Price and Clayton now stand alone in the “perfect 16” club, a number of others have come close. Daryl Gurney, Michael Smith, Rob Cross, Dave Chisnall, Simon Whitlock and Joe Cullen have each occupied 15 of the 16 seeding spots over the years – with just one missing seed denying them from joining the exclusive duo at the top. For Whitlock especially though, the quest to complete all sixteen seeds looks over, with the Aussie icon no longer a PDC Tour Card holder.
Further down the list, players like Ian White, Kim Huybrechts, Ryan Searle and Stephen Bunting are still within striking distance of completing the set, with 14 unique seeds to their name.
This weekend, Clayton begins his latest Euro Tour bid against either Gian van Veen or Johan Engström, who meet in Friday’s opening round. Win that, and “The Ferret” moves another step closer to a fourth title – and perhaps, a reminder that even at 50, there’s still more history to write.
