'Just the money': Gerwyn Price’s hilariously honest retort to darting motivation
PDC

Gerwyn Price put on a dominating display last night with a rampant 11-3 win over Chris Dobey. The Welshman hit eight 180s, averaging an astonishing 108.73 over 14 legs.

Price who won the World Championship back in 2021 has picked up four PDC titles so far this year and hopes to add the World Matchplay to his list of honours. “It’s one of the trophies I haven’t won, which I really want to win.”

In an interview after the game, Price was asked what his motivation is, “Just the money” he laughed, "and the world ranking points because I dropped down quite a bit… getting some money on my rankings more than anything.”

Price also claimed, “if my games good enough ill win, if not ill go home.” He is yet to average below 100 this tournament an impressive stat that only him and James Wade have achieved so far.

When asked if Price cared who his opponent was, “It doesn’t matter much, I go up and play the board.” Price has been one of the most consistent players on tour this year, recently picking up the title at the Polish Darts Masters where he beat Stephen Bunting 8-7. Having previously made the final back in 2022 falling short to Michael Van Gerwen. He will be hoping to put it right this year-round and pick up the title in Blackpool.

Josh Rock awaits in the quarterfinals, a rematch of the World Cup of Darts final. A game that saw both players scoring power and precision on the doubles. Price and Rock were very animated on the big stage, something that has become a staple in Price’s game and this match up will be full of it. Price has already taken down on the Northern Irish team and will be hoping he can do the double and progress to the semi-final.
