On Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9, some of the best players within the PDC will go "down under" when they compete against each other at the 2025 Australian Darts Masters in Wollongong. This tournament is the sixth event of the World Series of Darts.
It will be the second edition of this World Series tournament, which was won last year by Gerwyn Price. 'The Iceman' will be present again this year to defend his title and prize money at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
The total prize money for this tournament is a whopping £60,000. Before entering the first round, all players are guaranteed a minimum of £1,750. Those who reach the semifinals grab a sum of £5,000 and the runner-up wins a sum of £16,000. The winner of the Australian Darts Masters gets to credit a total of 30,000.
All this money counts toward the World Series of Darts Order of Merit ranking. Stephen Bunting is currently at the top of this and will also be present in Australia this weekend to defend that position. Price, who is second in the rankings, is also present and will hope to overtake the Englishman.
Big names like Rob Cross (3rd), Nathan Aspinall (5th) and Michael van Gerwen (8th) have chosen not to travel to Australia, which gives other names like Mike De Decker, Josh Rock and Damon Heta the chance to rise significantly on the Order of Merit with a good run down under. This is important in view of the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam in September, to which the top eight on the World Series Order of Merit automatically qualify.
The World Series of Darts has been coming to Australia since 2013. Via stops in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Townsville, it first came to Wollongong in 2022. The New South Wales Darts Masters were played there in 2022 and 2023, with Jonny Clayton and Rob Cross as winners.
In 2024, the tournament was renamed the Australian Darts Masters, as there is only one World Series tournament in Australia today. At the first edition of this tournament, Gerwyn Price crowned himself the winner. The Iceman triumphed 8-1 against Luke Littler in the final.
