A new concept was born this week in the ilk of the PDC World Cup of Darts as the International Pairs week of the MODUS Super Series was born. Despite not as much recent success in the PDC edition for the Netherlands, they proved to be the best this week.

The Dutch duo of Danny van Trijp and Jimmy van Schie only emerged from the group stage second time around just missed out on winning Group A. Scott Campbell and John Henderson for Scotland finished top after being 100/1 rank outsiders going into a close final day.

But qualifying through Group B, they faced Wales, Germany, Ireland and Kenya. They depended on the result of Wales who they faced in the final. They had to win their last game against Germany and they did and qualified at the last minute.

Taking their last minute chance, they were placed into a group and a tough one with Wales anchored by Richie Burnett and Kurt Parry. They lost out 4-3 to this team and had to beat England's Mervyn King and Steve West. Because Wales also won against England, Netherlands finished second in the group.

In the other group, it was much more of a close affair and too close to call as all the teams in Scotland, Ireland and Belgium all won 4-1. This meant a nine-dart shootout had to take place while Netherlands were sitting pretty to face the winner.

Scott Campbell was the anchor as he hammered home two 180's in a row amid a poor visit from John Henderson which mattered little in reality as they set up a tie with the Netherlands. The eventual champions were 2-0 and 3-2 behind but Van Schie hit 124 in the decider to reach the final.

Wales came out on top in their semi-final against Belgium with Kurt Parry hitting 68 in the decider. For the seventh time this week, Netherlands and Wales would face off. It was 4-2 in their Head-to-Head. But Netherlands peaked at the right moment.

They hit a 120 finish to break immediately and missed darts at doubles saw Netherlands hit the front and stay ahead. They went into a 3-0 lead with a 96 finish. Wales did break back but the Dutch produced a 17-darter and it was Van Trijp who sealed it.
