Players Championship Order of Merit: Cross first leader as expected after title

Rob Cross can call himself the first leader of the Players Championship Order of Merit. 'Voltage' managed to win the first Players Championship tournament of the season on Monday.

'Voltage' dealt with successively Robert Owen (6-2), Owen Bates (6-2), James Hurrell (6-4), Carl Sneyd (6-3), Jermaine Wattimena (6-5), Andrew Gilding (7-3) and Joe Cullen (8-3) to take the top prize of 15,000 pounds.

Needless to say, Cross leads the rankings after Players Championship 1. Losing finalist Cullen is in second place with 10,000 pounds, while semifinalists Luke Humphries and Andrew Gilding sit together on 5,000 pounds.

Playing Players Championship tournaments is the only route for players to grant themselves entry to the Players Championship Finals. At the end of the season, the 64 best players get to compete in the final tournament in Minehead.
