The Premier League Darts standings are updated after Night 15/17 with one regular night of action still to go in Sheffield next week. Nathan Aspinall ever the fighter knows there is a simple equation to his spot at the O2 that awaits.
Aspinall put one foot into the play-off places suddenly on Thursday night. He saw off Michael van Gerwen, Stephen Bunting before claiming a 6-1 success over Chris Dobey. This has hoisted him into the top four again.
The Van Gerwen win in particular was almost a straight shootout to see who would have the impetus in Sheffield next week and it was Aspinall who won. He now will claim the spot with one more win.
Michael van Gerwen now has an uphill task as even if he manages to beat Aspinall, he has to win the night. As fate would have it they face off again next week but if MVG wins, he would likely have to face Luke Littler in the semi-finals.
Littler faces Stephen Bunting. While Luke Humphries takes on Rob Cross. It will be Chris Dobey for Gerwyn Price. 'Hollywood' reached the final and did his hopes of better money in terms of finishing position the world of good.
Also as was mooted on the coverage, it also helped him when it came to not finishing bottom with it likely being Stephen Bunting at this rate despite him keeping it interesting after his poor start.
Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price have long sealed their spots at The O2 with two weeks to spare as was the case with the latter as he claimed it last week. Littler and Humphries have been qualified for even longer.
For Van Gerwen, it is win or bust while Aspinall may yet get a slice of luck even if he does lose. So Sheffield as ever will be one to watch to decide who claims the final Premier League Darts playoff spot at the O2 on May 29.
