Ross Montgomery has been crowned the 2025 World Seniors Champion of Champions, recovering from a 3-0 deficit early on, to dispatch the 2024 champion Richie Howson 8-5 in the final.

As mentioned, it was Howson who made the stronger start, racing into a 3-0 lead with confident scoring and steady finishing. The Englishman looked well on his way to a commanding win, punishing early nerves from the reigning world champion.

Montgomery finally got on the board in leg four and then exploded into life with a sensational 161 checkout that turned the tide. That moment sparked a streak of five consecutive legs for the Scot, who wrestled full control of the match away from Howson to lead 5-3 at the break.

The short interval seemed to benefit Howson, who returned refocused and snapped Montgomery’s streak by reducing the deficit to 5-4. However, Montgomery responded with a composed hold of throw, aided by a perfect 174 setup shot, to go 6-4 in front.

A missed opportunity to go 7-4 gave Howson a glimmer of hope, as he punished with a clinical two-dart 80 finish to stay in touch at 6-5. But Montgomery, showing the class and calm of a world champion, regained his composure and closed out the match by taking the next two legs, sealing the title on double four.

With this 8-5 victory, Ross Montgomery now adds the Champion of Champions crown to his Seniors World Championship, further cementing his status as one of the standout names on the Seniors circuit.

Earlier in the evening, Montgomery had already dispatched two legends of the sport. Overcoming the women's darting icon Trina Gulliver in a thrilling last leg decider, before comfortably brushing aside the pre-tournament favourite Raymond van Barneveld in the semi-finals.
