The first quarterfinal features Martin Lukeman and Gary Anderson facing each other. Lukeman was responsible for the elimination of Raymond van Barneveld on Sunday afternoon, after the five-time world champion failed to cash in on a 5-1 lead and went down 5-6 after a missed matchdart. Anderson recorded a 6-3 victory over Rob Cross, after 'The Flying Scotsman' had won from Gian van Veen in a great match on Saturday. The Scot then threw an average of 110, but needed a decisive leg to deal with Van Veen.
The second Quarter-Final sees Dirk van Duijvenbode won in phenomenal fashion over Martin Schindler (6-2) in the third round by throwing an average of over 111 back in action. With that, 'Aubergenius' followed up his victory over Michael van Gerwen.
It is the thirteenth time Van Duijvenbode has reached the last eight at a Euro Tour tournament. Last week the Dutchman delivered the same performance, but lost in the quarterfinals. Against James Wade, Van Duijvenbode now gets the chance to advance at least one round. Wade won in his first two ties against Joe Cullen (6-4) and Niels Zonneveld (6-2).
On the other side of the bracket, Peter Wright faces Andrew Gilding, who impressed in the third round against Danny Noppert. 'Goldfinger' threw an average of over 110, and bowled Noppert out of the tournament 6-3. Wright won 6-5 over Cameron Menzies in a delightful battle, in a match in which all eleven legs went with the darts.
In the final quarterfinals, Luke Woodhouse and Michael Smith will determine who will be the final semifinalist. Woodhouse won 6-3 over Ross Smith in the eighth finals, while Smith handled Luke Humphries in fine fashion. Thanks to a 12-darter in the leg-decider, 'Bullyboy' triumphed 6-5 against the world number one.
The tournament will be broadcast by PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the European Darts Grand Prix consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12 p.m., while the evening sessions start at 6 p.m.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Pro Tour players are then paired with one of the 16 players who managed to get through the various qualifying tournaments. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. The conclusion of the tournament follows on Sunday, with the third round first in the afternoon session. Sunday night the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will follow.
All participants starting from the first round are guaranteed £1250 in prize money, while the top-16 enter from the second round and receive £2,500 anyway. This amount eventually rises to the grand prize of £30,000 for the winner.
An important detail is that players who are automatically seeded via the Order of Merit and lose their first match will not be awarded prize money on the various rankings. This does apply to qualifiers who are later designated as seeded by the withdrawal of others.
