Swiss Darts Trophy 2025 Roundup | Stephen Bunting wins on the Euro Tour again with dominant final win over Luke Woodhouse

Stephen Bunting has crowned himself the 2025 Swiss Darts Trophy champion this Sunday evening in Basel. In a dominant performance in the final, the Bullet powered past Luke Woodhouse 8-3 to seal his victory.

The evening session was stacked with storylines. Woodhouse edged past Ryan Searle 6-5 in the quarters before comfortably dispatching Cor Dekker 7-3 in the semis, booking his spot in the final in search of a first PDC title of his career.

Bunting had the tougher road, producing a dominant 6-2 win over Raymond van Barneveld and then surviving a nail-biting last-leg decider against Gian van Veen. That clash with Van Veen, which Bunting edged 7-6, seemed to sharpen his focus rather than drain it, setting him up perfectly for the final.

Bunting Turns the Screw

The opening exchanges against Woodhouse were cagey. Both men spurned darts at double in the first leg before Woodhouse eventually got over the line. Bunting hit straight back with a solid hold, then pounced when Woodhouse missed the bull in leg three, pinning double 18 to secure the first break of throw. At 3-1, the Bullet looked comfortable, but he missed a dart at bull for 90 to stretch clear and Woodhouse found double nine to reduce the gap.

That would prove the closest he came to turning the tide. Bunting’s scoring power began to shine, and when Woodhouse failed to land tops for a 114, the St Helens thrower punished him mercilessly with a 110 checkout to move 5-2 ahead. Another composed hold followed to make it 6-2, and though Woodhouse briefly stopped the bleeding with a hold of his own, the momentum had long gone.

A brilliant 177 setup shot in the tenth leg was the dagger, flipping the position of the leg on its head and leaving Woodhouse stranded. Bunting cleaned up to go 7-3 in front, one away from the title. Moments later he sealed the job in style, checking out 83 to confirm an 8-3 triumph and lift the trophy.

For Woodhouse, his reputation as the highest-ranked player without a PDC title remains intact. He showed grit throughout the weekend, particularly in taking out Searle and handling the semi-final against Dekker with authority, but the final once again proved a step too far. Basel, however, was all about Bunting. Ruthless when it mattered most and clinical on the outer ring, he leaves Switzerland with silverware in hand and a statement to the rest of the field: underestimate The Bullet at your peril.
