Titles for Liu, Zong and Xu in opening weekend of China ProTour 2025

The China ProTour 2025 got underway last weekend with three tournaments in which Yuanjun Liu, Xiaochen Zong and Tong Xu each won a title. The tour, which runs from May to October, has a total of 10 events and offers prize money of US$3,500 per tournament.

Yuanjun Liu, who represented China at the World Cup of Darts in 2016 and 2017, made an immediate impression Saturday by winning the first tournament in convincing fashion. The 43-year-old darter outlasted Kehua Wang 5-1 in the final. En route to the final, Liu smoothly dealt with Ruoqi Guo, Linhui Zhang and Hao Li, before winning four legs in a row against Qingyu Zhan in the semifinals (5-3).

In Saturday's second tournament, it was Xiaochen Zong who showed his class. The four-time World Cup participant continued his victory streak with a handsome 5-1 win over Liu in the semifinals, notching an average of 96. Earlier, Zong beat Bin Zheng, among others, in a thrilling match (4-3) and conceded only one leg in duels against Xintao Shang, Peiwen Cao and Chenhui Pan. Then in the final, he was 5-2 too strong for Qingyu Zhan.

The third event was finished on Sunday, where Tong Xu proved the strongest. In a true battle of attrition, he was able to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 victory over the tough Qingyu Zhan, who reached the final for the third time this weekend. Zhan had dealt handsomely with Zong in the semifinals, while Xu eliminated Liu and earlier also convincingly defeated Junlong Yin and former World Cup contender Xicheng Han.

The China ProTour continues on July 19 and 20, when Events 4 through 6 are scheduled. In it, the battle for the coveted qualifying spots for the PDC Asian Championship continues unabated.
