'Was wondering whether I would ever win a title again' - Welcome return to form for Stephen Bunting in Copenhagen

Stephen Bunting convincingly stormed to the title at the Nordic Darts Masters on Saturday night by defeating Rob Cross in Copenhagen: 8-4. With that victory, the St Helens star took his second World Series title of 2025, following his earlier triumph in Bahrain.

It was already the third consecutive final on the World Series circuit for Bunting, and also a repeat of the confrontation with Cross in Den Bosch, earlier this year. Where he lost then, 'The Bullet' now took revenge in convincing fashion.

The match started evenly, with a fine 116 finish from Cross and a 3-1 gap at the first break. But after that, a reborn Bunting took control. With five legs in a row - including a handsome 104-checkout - he ran out to a comfortable 7-3 lead.

Cross looked tired and managed to break the spell at 7-4, but could not stop Bunting's advance. The Bullet clinically finished off the match and added the Nordic Darts Masters title to his growing record.

Self-confidence

For Bunting, it marks a strong comeback after a difficult Premier League campaign earlier this year. His confidence got a big boost, especially considering he had lost all of his last nine matches against Cross.

“The way I have been playing, I was wondering whether I would ever win a title again," stated Bunting, who had lost his last nine games against Cross in all competitions.

“I am really proud of myself the last few days. I have put the effort in, played some great darts and I believe I am a deserved winner. When you come and play in front of a crowd like this, you don’t want to let them down.

“I saw there were a lot of Bunting fans out there, and they really get me through. It was a privilege to play in front of them and hopefully I can maintain this form for the rest of the season.”

The next World Series tournament continues in New York. On June 27 and 28, the iconic Madison Square Garden will host the US Darts Masters.
