The Sapphire Darts Trophy, a top-class tournament, took place in Germany in mid-July. Over 200 players took part, including some wildcards and well-known influencers. Prominent names such as Rowby-John Rodriguez, Brian Raman, Leon Weber, Maximilian Czerwinski and Paul Krohne also took part.

As the official Instagram account of the tournament has now revealed, an extremely unusual scene occurred in the livestream. Paul Krohne met Oliver Klein in the round of the last 32. Krohne got off to a furious start and won the first three legs in 16, 16 and 11 darts. In the decisive fourth leg, Klein was on 127 remaining points but was unable to complete the checkout. He hit 20, 19 and 16 - but when he pulled out the darts, one got stuck. He was only able to remove two darts, the third remained unintentionally in the 20. Krohne then stepped up to the oche to check his remaining 54 points. He did not notice the dart in the 20. Just as Klein was about to pull the dart out, Krohne was already throwing. His dart landed far below the 14 ball, Krohne apologized immediately and seemed visibly shocked by the strange situation. He then checked out the 54 points with aplomb.

The mishap had no decisive effect in the end. Krohne continued to play strongly, reached the final and won the tournament against Rowby-John Rodriguez.
