The World Cup of Darts has seen some thrilling moments since its inception, but few things capture the imagination quite like a jaw-dropping average in a pairs match. As the 2025 edition gets underway in Frankfurt, it's the perfect time to revisit the most explosive scoring displays the tournament has ever seen.
Top of the list is the remarkable effort from Poland in the 2023 group stage. Facing Lithuania, Krzysztof Ratajski and Krzysztof Kciuk combined for a record-breaking average of 118.10 – the highest ever in a pairs match at the World Cup of Darts. Ratajski posted a stunning 118.45, with Kciuk close behind on 117.70. Despite that blistering performance, Poland’s campaign ended in disappointment – they made it through the group but were knocked out in the second round by Germany.
Before that, the benchmark was set by the Netherlands during their 2014 title-winning run. In the semi-finals against Northern Ireland, Michael van Gerwen produced an individual average of 125.56, the highest ever by a single player in a World Cup doubles match. His partner, Raymond van Barneveld, wasn’t far off either, landing a 109.25 average. Together, they averaged 117.88 – a mark that stood as the team record until Poland edged past it nine years later.
As this year’s tournament begins, fans will be hoping for another record-threatening display. Whether it comes from a big-name duo or a dark horse pairing remains to be seen – but history shows that on the World Cup stage, anything is possible.
