Friday is almost here, and that means new albums are on the way. This week’s #NewMusicFriday features new releases from Anne Wilson, Gucci Mane, Chrissy Hynde, and more. Here is a look at this week’s new music and five new albums that you definitely need to check out.
Award-winning Christian country singer Anne Wilson releases her third album on Friday. The 23-year-old’s first two albums topped the Christian album chart, and now her new album, Stars, will vie for that spot as well. The “My Jesus” singer’s latest offering is a 12-song collection that is a country storytelling of her coming-of-age journey of faith and surrender. The lead single, “God Story,” has already cracked the Top 20 of four different Christian music charts.
Trap music pioneer Gucci Mane returns this week with his new two-disc, 23-song album Episodes. The prolific rapper’s release coincides with his latest book, “Episodes: The Diary of a Recovering Mad Man,” which came out earlier this week. The new album and book explore Mane’s mental health journey. While the releases may serve as a catharsis for the platinum-selling artist, they are also meant to be a cautionary tale, coping tool, and example for Mane’s fans who face similar struggles.
Chrissie Hynde, the former lead singer of the Pretenders, releases her new album of duets this week. Duets Special will feature Hynde collaborating with the likes of Brandon Flowers of the Killers, Debbie Harry of Blondie, Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, Shirley Manson of Garbage, and country pop artist k.d. lang. The album is Hynde’s first since 2021, when she released an album of Bob Dylan covers titled Standing in the Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan. The first single off the album is a cover of Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind” with Canadian art pop artist Rufus Wainwright, which came out two months ago.
Icelandic indie folk rockers Of Monsters and Men release their fourth studio album on Friday. All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade is designed to be a patchwork quilt of stories that reflect the lives of the band members. Each card on the album cover represents a song and a story, and the circular design represents the notion that the journey has no beginning or ending. The band rocketed to stardom in 2011 with the international smash “Little Talks.” The new album has already charted three singles back in Iceland: “Television Love,” “Ordinary Creature,” and the double single “Dream Team”/”The Towering Skyscraper at the End of the Road.”
On the heels of his successful collaborations with Kanye West on 2024’s Vultures 1 and Vultures 2, Ty Dolla $ign (Tyrone William Griffin Jr.) returns with his new album, Tycoon, this Friday. The partnership with Ye was supposed to be a trilogy, but with all the controversy swirling around West, Griffin Jr. refocused back to his solo release. The platinum-selling rapper’s new album has had its share of setbacks, like delayed release dates and album cover changes, but it will finally arrive tomorrow. Few details have been released about the offering, but judging from the first single, “All In,” the rapper will return to his smooth loverboy R&B vibe for this album.
If none of the above releases fit your musical tastes, here are some of the other new albums and re-releases due out on October 17:
