'9-1-1' star Angela Bassett reveals the alternate death they filmed instead of Peter Krause's character

Fans were pretty shocked and understandably upset when Peter Krause's Captain Bobby Nash was killed off out of nowhere during a two-part episode event of 9-1-1 last season. However, they might be even more shocked to find out that they actually filmed an alternate death.

Angela Bassett revealed to TODAY.com that she found out about her on-screen husband's fate "late," explaining she received a "fake script" that included the death of Anirudh Pisharody's Ravi instead.

"We did twice as much work. We filmed (Ravi's) demise, and then the real one," the actress shared, mentioning how after she found out the final decision, she ran upstairs to speak with Krause once she arrived to set. "We just sort of looked at each other."

"I mean we're grown-ups, we know things can go this way sometimes," she continued. "'It happens to the best of us,'" she told him at the time, because "you try to make light, you face the reality of it."

They finished the conversation with an embrace, feeling "grateful for the time and the love and the camaraderie and the moments that you did have together."

"As he said, I am his longest actor wife," Bassett concluded.

Krause did send a lengthy statement to The Hollywood Reporter about his departure, thanking the cast, crew, and fans for his time on the show and his beloved character. "I will miss my partner, Angela Bassett. Her strength and her sweetness, and us holding hands. We parted ways too soon. Much love," he wrote.

In season 9, Corinne Massiah and Elijah M. Cooper, who portray Athena's kids, May and Harry, will now be series regulars. The series also stars Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, and Gavin McHugh.

9-1-1 returns as part of ABC's fall schedule on Thursday, October 9, at 8 PM ET/PT.
