Betty White reportedly suffered a stroke before her death on New Year's Eve

More details have emerged about the passing of Betty White at 99 years old on New Year's Eve.

TMZ has obtained White's death certificate, which states that the universally beloved five-time Emmy winner's official cause of death is "a cerebrovascular accident," which is a stroke. White reportedly suffered the stroke roughly a week before she died.

The Golden Girls icon was gearing up to celebrate her 100th birthday on Jan. 17. On New Year's Eve, her death was publicly confirmed by her agent, Jeff Witjas: "Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever. I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again." 

Witjas has also reiterated that, despite false COVID-related rumors, White "died peacefully in her sleep" at her Los Angeles home.

On Monday (Jan. 10), an unnamed source relayed to People, White suffered "a mild stroke," and again stated, "she died peacefully in her sleep."
