Neither law nor order is exclusive to the United States. Or to New York, for that matter. Let us never forget the brief run of "Law & Order: LA." However, did you know that "Law & Order" has transcended borders? There has been an ongoing "Law & Order" show up in Canada, and it's now coming to the United States thanks to The CW.
"Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent" is, as you have assuredly surmised, set in Toronto, Canada's largest city. Aden Young and Kathleen Munroe play, respectively, Henry Graff and Frankie Bateman. The show also has such Canadian elements as Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester. The first season debuted on Canada's CityTV in 2024 and proved a hit. This led to a second season, which debuted earlier this year.
America, of course, has a hankering for "Law & Order." Both the original series and spinoff "Special Victims Unit" have aired over 500 episodes at this point. The CW, meanwhile, is an over-the-air network just trying to get by. It certainly sits far behind CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX in terms of viewership, popularity, and cultural impact. Also, The CW certainly doesn't have the same level as budget. Thus, it makes sense that when the network announced its fall schedule for the 2025-26 TV season (to the extent a "TV season" still exists) that arguably the biggest bit of news was that the network had secured the American rights to the first two seasons of "Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent."
If you need more "Law & Order" to get your fix, or want to see your TV homicide detectives drinking Tim Horton's or what have you, The CW has you covered. Hey, if you have NBC and can watch "SVU," you have access to The CW in some way, shape, or form.
