Playing a game that immerses you so much you lose track of time is one of the joys of games. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve sunk into things like Elden Ring and Hitman in recent years. You can spend all day with a game and it feels like no time at all. If you’re playing a tabletop RPG with your friends, you might sink even more time. When it comes to Twilight Imperium? Well, you’re looking at six to eight hours minimum just for a single session. Now, the TTRPG players and the video gamers can get together with the brand new video game, Twilight Imperium Digital.

Twilight Imperium Digital will bring the epic space opera narrative of the political and military struggles of factions vying for control of the galaxy from the table to your PC. The board game, which uses a massive board and hexagonal tiles. The game consists of cardboard map tiles, cards, plastic units, cardboard counters, and player sheets. The map is built from hexagonal tiles, each showing up to three planets, empty space, or a red-bordered system containing an obstacle (with additional types added in the expansions).

From the press release, “Twilight Imperium Digital brings the galaxy-spanning conflict and deep political intrigue of the classic board game to life like never before – streamlined for the digital space but retaining the depth, complexity, and iconic feel fans love. Whether forging alliances, launching full-scale invasions, or battling for control of Mecatol Rex, players will now be able to immerse themselves in the Twilight Imperium universe at any time, from anywhere.”

One of the main selling points of this digital version of the game is no set-up or clean-up as opposed to the board game version. Automated systems will handle the math and logistics so “you can focus on the strategy that matters.” For a game this massive, that will definitely allow for more pick-up-and-play sessions.

As of yet, we don’t have a release date for Twilight Imperium Digital. You can, however, wishlist it now on Steam.
