Daisy Ridley will star in the biopic “Killa Bee,” which will portray the life of British fighter Bryony Tyrell.
Ridley—best known as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy—will aim to outdo Dwayne Johnson’s ‘The Smashing Machine.’ The film, written by Ruth Sewell and directed by Kenton Oxley, focuses on Tyrell’s daily life.
Tyrell, a mother of two with a master’s degree in nursing and a background in molecular biology, spent her days in the NHS Intensive Care Unit. By night, she transitioned into a professional mixed martial artist, eventually becoming one of the UK’s most recognizable prospects in the flyweight and strawweight divisions.
While Tyrell finished her professional career with a record of 4-6-1, her journey saw her compete on some of the world’s biggest stages. She made an appearance for Bellator MMA, where she faced off against kickboxing world champion Denise Kielholtz.
While she suffered a third-round stoppage loss, Tyrell showed great heart. In 2018, Tyrell shared the cage with former UFC fighter Molly “Meatball” McCann for the vacant Cage Warriors flyweight title. Another stoppage loss followed but Tyrell had her moments.
“Bryony Tyrell has been involved in the project with Kenton Oxley since the beginning and is supportive of her inspirational story being brought to the screen. She is actively consulting on the project. The scripting process has been shaped in close dialogue with Bryony’s family, ensuring emotional truth and creative integrity at every turn. Director Kenton, a longtime friend of Bryony’s since their school days, brings a deeply personal lens to the story — one rooted in trust, history, and fierce creative loyalty,” Ruth Sewell (producer)
“Bryony’s story is one of extraordinary courage and resilience. I was deeply moved by her emotional and empowering journey. I can’t wait to bring her spirit to the screen,” Ridley stated
“It’s a true honour to be working on this highly original, raw, inspirational, and ultimately unforgettable project. It’s our first time partnering with Daisy Ridley, and we cannot wait to see her bring Byony’s grit, vulnerability and sheer inspirational drive to the screen,” Nathan Wang (International sales manager) stated
