FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is set to return on July 9, and fans are not only excited to see the new season, but to watch the crossover episodes with Golden Bachelor and Abbott Elementary.
For Abbott Elementary, this will serve as the crossover's second part, as the first aired during the comedy's fourth season on ABC.
In Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Gang craves money and parasitic social privileges. That’s been plain since 2005. But they’re also human beings. They crave love, respect, conditional freedom, constant adulation, histrionic amounts of attention, non-stop gratification, and unfiltered, slaphappy eroticism.
When it comes to the Golden Bachelor crossover, Danny DeVito, who plays Frank Reynolds, teased to PEOPLE that the episode "just insane stuff going on," adding, "We had a ball doing it. They write such great stuff. If it's not on the page, it ain't on the stage."
Additionally, Carol Kane is in the episode, so it will be a fun Taxi reunion. "Carol Kane is our favorite. She's part of the zeitgeist at the moment, and I love her so much," the actor commented. "I've been working with her since Taxi, which is 50 years ago, if you're counting."
The franchise host Jesse Palmer is also part of the episode. "He's great. He was great," Charlie Day, who stars as Charlie Kelly, expressed. "He was game and willing to go for the big jokes, and he was really good in the episode."
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiered in 2005, and with its 17th season starting, it is the longest-running live-action sitcom ever.
"I feel like we’ve gotten away with murder. It sounds cheesy, but I feel seen," Glenn Howerton said to TheWrap. "As writers, we’ve poured our heart and soul into the show and it really is a reflection of our sensibility as work as satirists. The fact that it’s been so widely accepted for so many years and still continues to be watched by younger folks is very validating."
DeVito added, "When I met the guys and Kaitlin, I knew that I was joining something special. And I was right and we’ve had fun ever since. Every season is like base-jumping — you just let go and soar, just have an amazing time and ride the waves. The dialogue, the situations … I was a big fan of I Love Lucy, and this is like I Love Lucy on acid. I get to do it all.”
You can watch new episodes on FXX and stream on Hulu.
