DC Cinematic Universe movies and shows we’re most looking forward to seeing

Now that director James Gunn and Peter Safran are the co-heads of DC Studios, the DC Cinematic Universe (DCU) may finally have a chance to compete with the Marvel behemoth. They’ve rolled out a complete road map to turning the DC Comics franchise into one that’s just as vibrant on TV and in film as its main competitor. Thanks to DC’s untapped resources for characters and other comic imprints, they’ve got a very good chance to make Marvel’s heads shake in their well-tailored shoes, and it’s off to a promising start with movies like Joker and The Flash. Here are the ones we’re most looking forward to seeing on the big and small screen.

'Blue Beetle'

'Blue Beetle'
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

This film coming in August will be the first official entry in the DCU, and it’s a great character to start when you’re building a universe. An ordinary teenager named Jaime Reyes becomes the high-flying superhero when a scarab fuses itself to his spine. Even though the character has been around since the 1930s, Reyes’ incarnation didn’t start until 2006. If DC follows the lead of the Spider-verse movies that expand on both sides of the hero’s lives, the DCU will get a great head start.

'Joker: Folie à Deux'

'Joker: Folie à Deux'
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

Director Todd Phillips’ 2019 drama that helped Joaquin Phoenix win a Best Actor Oscar is easily the most divisive comic book movie in decades, and that’s precisely why we can’t wait for the sequel. The first Joker retooled with the classic villain origin story with a gritty Scorsese-esque tale about a man being pushed to emotional villainy no matter how hard he tries to fight it. The sequel will continue the story with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and musical numbers. If you’re going to tell the tale of a crazy person, it better be crazy.

'The Batman 2'

'The Batman 2'
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

We’ve lost track of how many Batman reboots Hollywood has attempted. The only thing more bewildering is how good the latest reboot was when it came out last year. We won’t get a sequel until 2025, but we know we’ll get back all of the principal cast except for Batman’s main villain. Whoever they get will have their work cut out for them since Paul Dano’s brilliant portrayal of The Riddler set the bar really high.

'Superman Legacy'

'Superman Legacy'
Legendary Pictures

It feels like a long time since we’ve had a good Superman movie, and DC seems to realize that since they are completely retooling the latest version from the ground up. Gunn himself is working on the script and directing, which means whatever we get won’t be as heavy-handed and serious as the last few entries. Gunn also plans to focus the story on Superman’s origins and how they clash with his life on Earth. The possibilities are filled with potential.

The other 'Superman' reboot

The other 'Superman' reboot
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

Superman is the anchor of the DCU, so the studios are rebooting the Man of Steel with two new franchises. JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot is helming the other Superman reboot, with author and Black Panther and Captain America comic writer Ta-Nehisi Coates writing the script. The story itself is still unknown, but it will be a huge step forward for the superhero genre in general, with a diverse cast and a fresh new take on the hero’s story.

'The Penguin'

'The Penguin'
HBO Max/DC Comics

This TV spinoff from The Batman has the feel of a good, old-fashioned mob drama with Colin Farrell as the titular crime boss who begins to make his bloody mark across Gotham City. Farrell’s performance is transformative. It’s so good that most cast members didn’t even recognize him on the set. Imagine what he could do with a whole series that could bring his take on The Penguin back to the big screen.

7 of 15

'Arkham Asylum'

'Arkham Asylum'
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

The Arkham Asylum games were brilliant because they had gripping stories and a great cast that incorporated every inch of the Batman universe. This Max (formerly HBO Max) series isn’t a replication of those, but the games are worth mentioning because of the great potential that Gotham’s gallery of crazies presents. This series sounds like an exciting take on Batman’s universe since former showrunner Matt Reeves described it as “a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.” Our name will be at the top of the patient visitors’ list.

'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'

'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

The Flash introduced a new Supergirl played by Sasha Calle. It’s not yet known if she’ll get to don the cape for future projects, but the story seems to have set her up for her own Supergirl film. This film is based on the comic series of the same name in which we learn Kara’s origin story on Krypton. It’s bound to be a darker-than-usual tale since she witnesses the collapse of her home planet.

'Swamp Thing'

'Swamp Thing'
The CW/DC Comics

Director Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing in 1982 had its charms, but it really didn’t capture the essence of the green protector of “the green.” Director James Mangold, the critically acclaimed filmmaker behind Logan, Ford v. Ferrari, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, has us excited to see his Swamp Thing movie because he wants to make it a true horror adventure that makes the hero work on the big screen.

'The Sandman' (Season 2)

'The Sandman' (Season 2)
Netflix/Vertigo

TV and movies can’t have enough stories based on the works of Neil Gaiman. The first season of The Sandman on Netflix, based on Gaiman’s brilliant graphic novel about “The King of Dreams,” left us wanting more, and thankfully, Netflix and DC Studios are bringing them back for another season. It may take a while since Gaiman has said the only things they have so far are the scripts.

11 of 15

'Harley Quinn' (Season 4)

'Harley Quinn' (Season 4)
HBO Max/DC Comics

The Harley Quinn animated series is one of the few remaining survivors of DC’s streaming platform. The Harley Quinn cartoons are the Deadpool of the DC franchise in which Joker’s ex teams up with Poison Ivy and a variety of Batman’s fourth-tier villains. The writing is sharp, hilarious, and uncompromising, and it’s been confirmed that it will be back on Max for a fourth season.

12 of 15

'Noonan’s'

'Noonan’s'
HBO Max/DC Comics

The Harley Quinn show is such a big hit that it’s starting to inspire spinoffs, starting with this starting vehicle for Kite Man. Noonan’s refers to the villain bar that Kite Man and his special lady Golden Glider buy in Gotham City. Think of it as a Rogues Gallery meets Cheers kind of vibe with the kind of humor you’ve come to expect from a DC animated sitcom.

'Batman: Caped Crusader'

'Batman: Caped Crusader'
Warner Bros. Animation/Fox Network

Abrams and Reeves are also helming this TV series that aims to bring back the feel and atmosphere of the brilliant Batman: The Animated Series from the '90s. For some reason, Max passed on the show while it was in production, but it sounds like the kind of Batman we grew up watching after school with a whole new cast and creators.

'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom'

'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom'
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

We’re sorely missing Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. The first Aquaman film is a breathtaking, epic adventure with wit, charm, and style, and a sequel is finally underway with Saw director James Wan helming the production. We’re also very intrigued by some of the choices Wan is making, like giving the film a horror bent inspired by the cult film Planet of the Vampires. You had us at Aquaman (maybe) fighting underwater vampires.

15 of 15

'Lanterns'

'Lanterns'
Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics

If anyone deserves another chance, it’s the Green Lantern. The Ryan Reynolds movie that bombed so hard it became a post-plot joke in Deadpool 2 has made it very hard for a DC universe to even get the green light. Now we’re getting a full TV series that Gunn described as a detective story featuring Hal Jordan and all other Lanterns across the universe.

Troubling news emerges on Bears QB Caleb Williams’ workout with HC Ben Johnson

It might have been a good thing the Chicago Bears didn’t play Caleb Williams on Sunday. The Bears might need to hide their second-year quarterback as he irons out his wrinkles in the pre-snap process and with accuracy issues. The No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft struggled with timing and accuracy during the Bears’ joint practice with the Miami Dolphins on Friday. Caleb Williams was inaccurate in the red zone against no defenders On Sunday, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson chose not to play second-year quarterback Caleb Williams against the Dolphins in their first preseason game. Instead, Johnson led a workout with Williams and wide receivers Rome Odunze and DJ Moore before the game. Per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears ran a total of 87 plays during the workout. All of the plays were routes in the air with no defenders on the field for the scripted practice. Despite going against no defenders bringing pressure or guarding his receivers, Williams struggled to hit his targets in the red zone. "Williams would stand next to Johnson, who would give him the play," Biggs wrote. "Then, the quarterback simulated a huddle with the player (only one ran a route on each snap) and gave the play call. They’d break the huddle, go to the line of scrimmage, Williams would simulate pre-snap actions and then the play would be run… "Before ending the session with eight deep balls, there was a 25-play set of snaps in the red zone. One thing Williams struggled to connect on was out routes to Moore and Odunze near the goal line. Those throws were not close and Williams consistently led the receivers too much." A closed-door problem for the Chicago Bears The throws weren’t close during routes on air… in the red zone? Williams wasn’t ready to take the field for the preseason game. For all of the flak he’s been getting from practice reports, the quarterback would have been relentlessly mocked for having these issues shown during an NFL Network broadcast. Biggs’ report is troubling, with a month to go before the season. Williams has much to improve upon, and the Bears are very much trying to do so without cameras present for a reason.

Former NASCAR official sheds light on investigation, decisions during infamous 2013 'Spingate' scandal

In September 2013, one of the biggest scandals in NASCAR history took place at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. The 2013 Federated Auto Parts 400 was the final race in the 2013 Cup Series regular season. At the time, only 12 drivers made the Chase for the Sprint Cup. After a chaotic evening that saw Carl Edwards snag the win, Michael Waltrip Racing was embroiled in a massive race manipulation scandal that played a huge role in the team's eventual downfall. Clint Bowyer intentionally spun in the closing laps in an effort to help teammate Martin Truex Jr. make the chase, while Brian Vickers was told to come down pit road for the same reason. When it was all said and done, Truex Jr. was booted from the Chase and ended up leaving the team at season's end, along with longtime sponsor Napa Auto Parts. Bowyer was docked 50 points and saw his title hopes evaporate before the postseason even began and general manager Ty Norris was indefinitely suspended. Former crew chief and NASCAR Vice President of Competition, Robin Pemberton, joined the "Dale Jr. Download" on Wednesday and explained NASCAR's side of the story from that infamous evening nearly 12 years ago. "About 10 o'clock in the morning (the day after the race) the phone rings," Pemberton said. "It's (former NASCAR president) Mike Helton. He goes, 'We got frickin' trouble. We got to do an investigation.'" At the time, Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, hosted the first race of NASCAR's postseason as well as media week for the Chase. The spotlight was going to be firmly on the race weekend regardless of extenuating circumstances, but what followed was one of the most bizarre set of occurrences in NASCAR history. "Monday at nine or 10 o'clock, I'm on a (expletive) airplane going to Chicago," Pemberton said. "They (NASCAR) put me in a room. The TV people came in, and they replayed stuff and replayed stuff. I was in that room for eight or 10 hours the first day and probably 16 the second day." After combing through footage and radio transmissions, Pemberton came to a conclusion. "Now, you're fixing a race," Pemberton said. But the MWR scandal was not the only domino to fall in regard to the 2013 Chase. Team Penske and Front Row Motorsports — a pair of Ford teams — were also found to have participated in race manipulation, with David Gilliland intentionally slowing on a restart in order to help Joey Logano secure his spot in the postseason. While Logano remained in the playoff field, NASCAR made an unprecedented decision by adding four-time champion Jeff Gordon as a 13th driver, claiming that Gordon and the No. 24 team had been placed at a disadvantage at Richmond due to race manipulation. "It was kind of no harm, no foul," Pemberton said of the move to add Gordon to the Chase field. "He wasn't having one of his best years. But that was a decision by a few people. "What a frickin' week that was." The NASCAR Cup Series field will return to Richmond on Saturday for the penultimate race of the 2025 regular season — an event that will hopefully be devoid of race manipulation and controversy.

Raiders Camp Report No. 15: Rookie Rising, New Position Battles Emerge

HENDERSON, Nev.—Pete Carroll, a future member of both the College Football and Pro Football Halls of Fame, has brought his passionate approach and emphasis on competition to the Las Vegas Raiders, and it's already yielding positive results. In our latest episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast, we take you inside today's training camp practice to discuss several intriguing developments, including one rookie who is excelling in his bid to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. You can watch the entire podcast below: When Lonnie Johnson suffered a serious injury, many wondered what John Spytek and Pete Carroll would do next. The addition of Terrell Edmunds proved to be a smart move, bringing in a seasoned veteran. After practice, Edmunds addressed several questions, and below is a partial transcript of his responses. Safety Terrell Edmunds Q: How did this opportunity come up? And what were your first thoughts when you found out? Terrell Edmunds: "My first thoughts when the opportunity presented itself, I was just excited. Excited to come and join a new team, excited to come and join these guys. I saw how much they were grinding. I watched the game before I even came out here. And then, just excited to come out here." Q: What was your evaluation of the defense watching the game? Edmunds: "It was pretty good. Everybody has your hiccups right now, ups and downs of just early preseason, just getting everything in order. You have a lot of new faces on the team, new coaching scheme. So now it's just like, let's all come together. Let's figure out what we can do to make us the best squad we can be." Q: How would you describe your skill set and how you fit into the mold here with Patrick Graham's defense? Edmunds: "Honestly, just coming in and just trying to be a sponge, trying to learn as much as I can. Come down wherever they want me to play, if they want to play dime, if they want to play any safety position. Wherever they want me to go, just go out there and help out the best way I can." Q: Are you absorbing the new playbook? How similar is it to stuff you've done in the past? Edmunds: "Every playbook has some similarities, but you just got to come out here and just learn exactly what they want you to do. Just come out here, first get the respect of your teammates, then get respect to your coaches, and then go out there and play fast." Q: How do you go about doing that? I know there's some catch up going on right now. A lot of these guys have been in the building since April. So, for you coming in here the way you have, how do you go about your time? Edmunds: "Just be coachable, number one. Don't be afraid to ask the question. Don't be afraid to ask a teammate when you're out there with them. I just go out there and just give everything you got, just come in here try to be a study right you can say, just stay in the building. Nothing for me to do at the hotel anyway. So, stay in the building and just learn as much as I can and come help out whenever they put me in." Q: You're a veteran, you've been around a long time. Can you talk about the culture Pete Carroll, it's pretty unique. Edmunds: "It is unique. I played for some historic coaches, and he's just another one on the list, and now his culture that I'm involved in now, that's a little bit different. But he's just excited. He's high energy guy in meeting rooms, at practice you see him running up and down. You see him with the competition today, I had a competition. We had a tip ball drill at the end. I lost, but just the competition factor, just make sure everybody ready to come compete every day." Q: Pete Carroll being a former DB coach himself. What has he said to you about what he wants to see from you on this team? Edmunds: "He just said he wanted to see high energy right now. High energy, see how well I can pick up the playbook. Just play fast, just go out there and play free and just go out there and help out the team." We'd appreciate it if you would follow us on X @HondoCarpenter and IG @HondoSr , and let’s talk about the Silver and Black’s training camp and Terrell Edmunds’ comments.

Is Thomas Muller Playing Tonight For Vancouver Whitecaps Vs Forge In the Canadian Championship?

German legend Thomas Müller drew curtains to his decorated career with Bayern Munich earlier this season, with the player securing a move to Vancouver Whitecaps. Fans have been anticipating his debut ever since his move to the Canadian side, and by the looks of it, Vancouver supporters could be in perfect luck! According to reports, Müller is expected to make his debut for the side against Forge FC as the Vancouver Whitecaps look to secure their place in the Canadian Championship finals. The German has already cleared all medical tests and is fit to start off the opening whistle. Müller is no stranger to championship clashes, and his presence in the team's playing XI could be a huge boost for the club. Expectations are huge with the Whitecaps in line for a legendary four-peat with the Canadian Championship, and a win over Forge will put them just one step away from making history. With the addition of Müller to their ranks, the Whitecaps will fancy their chances of lifting the title, amid their impressive run in the MLS Western Conference Standings. The club are currently placed 2nd in the standings and is likely to make it to the playoffs unless things take a drastic turn. It will be interesting to see if Müller can add another title to his already impressive cabinet as he takes on a new challenge in his decorated career.
