DC Studios officially reveals new 'Supergirl' movie costume

After this year’s excellent Superman, we’re very curious to see what the DCU adventures of Kal-El’s Kryptonian cousin will be like when Supergirl hits theaters. We only got a brief scene of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El at the end of Superman, where she comes to collect her dog Krypto. And that hung over “party girl” version is what we’ll be seeing in Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl, which arrives in June. Although Kara appeared in costume in Superman, her outfit in her own film will be slightly different. Thanks to Omelete, via Comic Book, we’ve seen the reveal for her new costume at the recent CCXP Expo.

So what are the key differences? For starters, the ‘S’ shield is somewhat larger in the new costume, more in line with her famous cousin’s crest. Also, her belt design is altered, now all gold with no red highlights. We also get a look at her cape, previously covered by a thick coat in Superman. This should make fans of the comic this movie is based on, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, very happy. It’s now much closer to the Bilquis Evely design, except for the ‘S’ shield. It’s actually probably closer to the comics than anything she wore in the CW arrives as well.

Kara Zor-El changing her superhero costume with frequency is very in line with her DC Comics counterpart. From her arrival in 1959 and into the modern day, Supergirl has cycled through a metric ton of costumes . Some for short periods, and others that lasted for years. We love the character no matter how goofy the costume may get. As for the upcoming film, we genuinely can’t wait to see Supergirl and Krypto fight aliens, especially Lobo, played by Jason Momoa. Hopefully, now that they’ve revealed the costume, we will finally get a trailer for Supergirl. That’s got to be coming soon, right?
