Dua Lipa set to make film-acting debut in star-studded spy thriller 'Argylle'

Dua Lipa became inescapable after her "Don't Start Now," the smash lead single off her Grammy-winning sophomore album Future Nostalgia, exploded in late 2019.

Thursday (July 8), the 25-year-old added an unexpected layer to her world-dominating arsenal.

Per Deadline's Andreas Wiseman, the London native will make her film-acting debut in Matthew Vaughn's forthcoming spy thriller Argylle alongside Hollywood royalty Henry Cavill, John Cena, Bryan Cranston, Bryce Dallas Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine O'Hara and Sam Rockwell.

"The film, based on the soon to be launched spy novel Argylle from author Ellie Conway, follows 'the world’s greatest spy' Argylle as he is caught up in a globe-trotting adventure," Wiseman relayed. "The movie will be the first of at least three films in the franchise and is set in America, London and multiple locations across the world."

Dua Lipa confirmed her casting Thursday afternoon:

"When I read this early draft manuscript, I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the '50s," Vaughn, who will direct Jason Fuchs' (Wonder Woman) script, expressed in a statement. "This is going to reinvent the spy genre."

That's quite the comparison, seeing as Fleming's "books of the '50s" merely brought James Bond to life and launched arguably the most iconic spy franchise in the history of civilization.

Vaughn has ample experience in translating action-packed spy plots to the big screen through Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), with The King's Man on the way.

There is no specific release date attached to Argylle, but the blockbuster is expected next year.
