Rumors of Dune 3 have been circulating since before Dune: Part Two even hit theaters, but some recent developments at Warner Bros lead us to believe that it is on the horizon.
It was confirmed in April that Denis Villeneuve is developing Dune 3 and another new film at Legendary. Now, Warner Bros has set the stage for what many speculate will be Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune: Messiah.
The studio added a "Denis Villeneuve Event Film" to their slate, with a December 2026 release date, leading many to believe this is Dune 3, the film Villeneuve has said "should be the last Dune movie for [him]" as per Deadline.
While it remains unconfirmed by the studio — likely because production is yet to commence as the script and cast remain in development — it seems Dune 3 is a mere two and a half years away.
Villeneuve has three other films on his upcoming slate outside of Dune: Messiah, which includes Cleopatra, an adaptation of Arthur C Clarke's Rendezvous with Rama and the "Unnamed Denis Villeneuve Secret Project" which the synopsis would suggest is an adaptation of Anne Jacobsen's latest book Nuclear War: A Scenario.
