Just like many Americans this Tuesday, ESPN host Mike Greenberg is heartbroken over the death of Dolly Parton.
Parton’s nephew, Brian Seaver, announced in a video that she passed away at the age of 80. The iconic singer produced plenty of hits over the course of her career, including “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.”
Greenberg wasn’t on-air when Parton’s death was announced, but he did post a heartfelt message on social media.
“We throw around words like ‘icon’ and ‘legend’ too easily, but in the case of Dolly Parton they don’t seem like enough,” Greenberg said. “I can think of few public figures in my lifetime more universally respected and beloved.”
Earlier this Tuesday, President Donald Trump said U.S. flags will be lowered to half staff to honor Parton.
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”
There’s no question Parton’s legacy will live on for years to come.
