Those hoping that Euphoria would continue after Season 3 will be disappointed by HBO’s latest decision on the hit series, which came after the latest season’s finale.
Euphoria has come to an end after seven years and three seasons, during which 26 episodes were produced. The announcement was made by creator Sam Levinson on Popcast and later confirmed to Variety.
This makes the Season 3 finale, which was titled “In God We Trust,” the series finale. Like most of Season 1 and all of Season 2, Levinson wrote and directed all eight episodes of the third season.
Perhaps the news isn’t surprising to some, as four years passed between the second and third seasons. Plus, series star Zendaya once stated, “I think so, yeah,” when asked if she thought Euphoria Season 3 would be the last, adding that “closure is coming.”
Euphoria had a polarizing run since its premiere on June 16, 2019. It began as a teen drama that followed a group of high schoolers and their struggles with various vices. The series followed them into adulthood, as Season 3 showed.
The first season aired from June 16 to Aug. 4, 2019. In between the first two seasons, two holiday specials were released on Dec. 6, 2020, and Jan. 24, 2021.
That satiated the appetite of viewers before the second season premiered on Jan. 9, 2022. It would take over four years for the third season to finally arrive.
Zendaya led all three seasons of the show. Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, and Sydney Sweeney also starred in the series. The late Eric Dane and Angus Cloud were also featured in the show.
Levinson created Euphoria based on the Israeli miniseries of the same name. He had previously directed Another Happy Day and Assassination Nation before Euphoria took off. Levinson also directed Zendaya in Malcolm & Marie in 2021, and he created another polarizing HBO show, The Idol, which aired for five episodes in 2023.
