“Hazbin Hotel” is back with its brand-new Season Two, and it’s better than ever. To recap, this show follows the misadventures of Charlie Morningstar and her friends. She’s on a mission to redeem condemned souls and save them from Heaven’s annual extermination. And it’s brought to us by the talented animator, Vivienne Medrano.
The first two episodes of this newest arc recently premiered, and fans are raving. But what exactly happened in these installments, and how will they affect the overall story? Well, we’re going to talk about that right here, right now.
“Hazbin Hotel” 2×01, “New Pentious,” takes place a month following the war with Adam’s army. New clients now fill the hotel, including Baxter, the mad scientist fish-based Sinner. But the guests are more interested in learning how to kill angels than in redemption. On the other side, Vox plans to twist Charlie’s newfound reputation to further the Vees’. He also plans on conducting an uprising against Heaven to achieve godhood.
Episode 2×02 “Storyteller” follows the aftermath of Sir Pentious appearing in Heaven. He tells his life before a court of angelic royalty and the Speaker of God. Afterward, Emily helps Pentious settle into his new home despite his melancholiness. And Lute, now hallucinating Adam, begins plotting to avenge her fallen commander. The episode ends with Sera and the seraphims locking down Heaven for fear of retaliation.
These two “Hazbin Hotel” episodes essentially establish the premise for the entirety of Season Two. Charlie will likely double her efforts, now that she knows that redemption is possible. This time around, she’ll probably have support from Heaven, or at the very least Emily. It’s also possible she could learn to be a firmer and more confident leader. Luckily, Lucifer is there to guide and assist her in any way she’ll need.
However, Charlie’s efforts are going to be a lot harder now, thanks to the Vees. They’ll pull out all the stops to discredit her and sabotage her work. And all to further their goal of ruling over both Heaven and Hell. Not to mention that Lute will do everything in her power to exact her revenge. Heck, it’s even possible the Vees’ plans could unintentionally give way to Lute’s later on.
Overall, it looks like Charlie is going to have her hands full this season. And that means a lot of entertainment for “Hazbin Hotel” fans and viewers everywhere. The only bummer is they’ll have to wait to get their next fix.
After watching this two-episode “Hazbin Hotel” season premiere, I give it a solid 10. Everything hit the right note, from the typical humor to the emotion-driven drama. I especially liked the new music, with the villain song “Gravity” being my favorite. Another thing I adored is how Angel Dust is more willing to lower his walls. It shows he’s taking Husk’s words from Season One to heart.
I’m personally hoping Season Two answers the mystery surrounding Lilith, Charlie’s mother. She was mentioned in “New Pentious” and had a non-speaking cameo in “Storyteller.” The latter also revealed that Sera knows about her being in Heaven. And yet, we’re still unclear on why she’s there to begin with. Maybe we’ll find out when the next two episodes premiere the following week.
