Iconic sports broadcaster saves diner's life with Heimlich maneuver

Bob Costas recently played the role of hero, as the legendary sportscaster saved a fellow diner's life by performing the Heimlich maneuver.

Per Francesca Bacardi of Page Six, the 71-year-old was eating at a restaurant in Syracuse, New York when his friend "began to choke." That's when Costas reportedly "rushed to help him."

According to Page Six, the former longtime voice of NBC Sports was humble following the life-saving act.

"Bob doesn’t think this was that big of a deal," a representative for Costas told Page Six. "He really feels he did what just about anyone else would do in a similar situation."

Furthermore, according to the report, Costas later told "The Show With Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman" podcast that his friend had turned "crimson" during the scary scene, so he "jumped up" to help him.

The play-by-play man added "luckily enough it worked out."

"I don't know if I saved his life, but I saved him considerable discomfort, that's for sure," Costas said.

The 29-time Emmy Award winner has been announcing MLB postseason contests this fall on TBS.

Costas garnered some criticism last fall for his coverage during the ALDS between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees.

Not only did Costas at one point accidentally call Guardians ace Shane Bieber "Justin Bieber," but many called out the New York City native for an apparent underwhelming job in the series.
