‘Jumanji: Open World’: Final ‘Jumanji’ Movie, Explained

In April 2026, Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Black took to CinemaCon to tease the Jumanji reboot threequel, Jumanji: Open World, which follows 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. The film is also the fifth and final installment in the wider franchise beginning with the 1995 film starring Robin Williams.

Sony Pictures officially released the trailer for Jumanji: Open World on July 28, giving audiences worldwide their first look at the new movie.

Here’s everything we know about the film so far.

What is Jumanji: Open World about?

The trailer starts with the video game world of Jumanji escaping to the real world, a throwback reference to the plot of the 1995 Jumanji. Wild animals run amok on the streets, and the game characters Dr. Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Professor Oberon (Jack Black), Franklin Finbar (Kevin Hart), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan) enter the real world, though stuck in “demo mode.”

To prevent any more damage and set the world right, Spencer (Alex Wolff), his mother Janice (Marin Hinkle), his younger brother Tyson (Jack Jewkes), and the chef Donatas (Dan Hildebrand) enter the game world of Jumanji, respectively taking on the avatars of Roundhouse, Bravestone, Finbar, and Oberon.

Who will star in Jumanji: Open World?

Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, and Madison Iseman reprise their roles as the teenagers Spencer, Martha, “Fridge,” and Bethany. Danny DeVito returns as Spencer’s grandfather Eddie, and Marin Hinkle returns as Spencer’s mother Janice.

Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan return as Dr. Bravestone, Professor Oberon, Franklin Finbar, and Ruby Roundhouse. Nick Jonas, Rhys Darby, and Awkwafina also reprise their roles as the video game characters “Seaplane” McDonough, Nigel Billingsley, and Ming Fleetfoot.

Brittany O’Grady, Burn Gorman, and Nasim Pedrad are cast in unknown roles. New castings also include Jack Jewkes as Tyson, Bebe Neuwirth as Nora Shepherd, and Lamorne Morris as a heater repairman.

Who is behind Jumanji: Open World?

Jake Kasdan, who directed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level, returns to write, direct, and produce Jumanji: Open World. Kasdan co-wrote the script with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Matt Tolmach are also credited as coproducers.
