Lady Gaga, Benson Boone make the most of awkward Coachella moments

The second weekend of Coachella is going on apace. Even though the first weekend was lackluster from a ticket sales and enthusiasm perspective, it's not like the plug was going to be pulled. Artists who performed on the first weekend are back for more this time around, and two of the musicians in question made the most out of moments that were less than ideal from a performing perspective.

The Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga, was considered one of the highlights of the first weekend. In the wake of releasing her latest album "Mayhem", Gaga has been doing her thing at Coachella. Her second weekend out there in California got off to a note that indicated that this set wasn't going to pop in quite the same way.

Opening with "Abracadbra" off of "Mayhem," her head mic swiftly shorted out on her. Do you think Gaga freaked out? Nope! Instead, she ditched the head mic, grapped a hand mic, kept on singing, and even kept up with her choreography. After finishing, she quipped, "At least you know I sing live." That's about as good of a line as you can deliver in that moment.

Meanwhile, rising star Benson Boone included a cover of Queen's iconic "Bohemian Rhapsody" in his set. His vibe for the night was very Freddie Mercury, so that tracks. Boone then brought out Queen guitarist Brian May to play live. The singer was enthused, which is not surprising given his clear affinity for Queen and this song, but the audience's reaction was...muted. So much so, Boone took to social media to call out his crowd for not giving May enough love.

On weekend two, Boone told the crowd, "Just wait till you see who I bring up for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ today." He went into the song, the stage platform began to rise, and Boone shouted "Brian May!" On the platform was not May, but a cardboard cutout of the legendary guitarist. Boone then went and retrieved the cutout and brought it down to the stage, ending the proceedings with his arm around the two-dimensional May.

While it may have been birthed from May being unavailable for the second weekend of Coachella, this is a delightful, but innocuous, troll job by Boone. A cardboard cutout of May should remain part of Boone's entourage going forward. In fact, he's the musical guest for the next new episode of "Saturday Night Live." Fingers crossed "May" joins him.
