LEGO Icons TRANSFORMERS Set Showcases Decepticon Soundwave

One of the most iconic G1 Transformers characters of all time was Soundwave, the evil Decepticon who could transform into a cassette player. One of Megatron’s most loyal minions, thanks to his unique design, he was definitely a fan favorite among the initial Transformers wave of toys from 1984. Kids loved the evil robot who hid another little evil robot inside of him. Now, Soundwave is about to make a big comeback as the latest LEGO set, following Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. And this Soundwave LEGO Icons Transformers set is made specifically for adult fans, in a collaboration with Hasbro.

The LEGO Icons Soundwave set allows for builders to create their own version of this character from the Transformers franchise. 1,505 separate pieces make up this new Soundwave build. It features posable joints, a working cassette bay, and a seamless conversion between robot and cassette player modes. All without disassembly, we might add. Pressing LEGO Soundwave’s play button activates specially recorded voice and sound effects, bringing to life the iconic Transformers toy and cartoon character. He’s quite literally “More than meets the eye.” (Sorry folks, we had to). Hopefully, this means many other Decepticon characters are coming in later LEGO Icons sets and Transformers builds.

Accompanying Soundwave are two buildable cassette companions: Ravage and Laserbeak, that convert into miniature cassette tapes, fitting snugly into Soundwave’s chest compartment. Accessories include a rocket pod, laser blaster, and darts, all adding to the set’s action-packed authenticity. A display plaque showcasing Soundwave’s power statistics makes this a perfect centerpiece for home or office display. The LEGO Icons Transformers Soundwave set will be available for LEGO Insiders Early Access from August 1, and for all shoppers starting on August 4, via LEGO.com/Transformers and LEGO Stores, priced at $189.99.
