Lionel Richie Hospitalized After St. Louis Concert

Singer and TV personality Lionel Richie was hospitalized in the intensive care unit after struggling to finish a Saturday concert in St. Louis.

Near the end of the show, the American Idol judge asked for a chair and performed his final song, “All Night Long,” while seated. Witnesses told TMZ that Richie appeared to be struggling toward the end of the concert.

According to TMZ, Richie later checked himself into a local hospital for testing, where doctors are investigating dehydration as a possible cause. The outlet reported that Richie hopes to be discharged Tuesday, while a source close to the singer told Rolling Stone that he is expected to be OK.

ABC News also reported that Richie checked himself into the hospital “out of an abundance of caution” following the weekend concert, citing a source close to the singer’s tour, which began in June.

This isn’t the first time Richie has had to take a seat during a performance. Last July, the singer cut his show at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, short about 55 minutes into the performance after telling the crowd he was feeling “dizzy” and “strange.” He even sat down on one of the stage platforms while performing “Dancing on the Ceiling.”
