"Eternals" may have been the worst Marvel movie (through sheer tonnage that race has gotten more competitive), but it did offer up something intriguing. Namely, Mahershala Ali playing Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wesley Snipes had played Blade a few times (and reprised the role in "Deadpool and Wolverine"), but now Disney would have its own Blade. One with cache, too. Ali has won two Oscars. If that dude wants to play a half-vampire for you, let him do it!
Alas, "Blade" got pulled into the morass of the mess that the MCU has become. Multiple directors have been attached, multiple writers have taken a crack at the script, and the movie kept getting pushed. Then, in 2024, Disney straight-up took "Blade" off the schedule. Ali has stayed busy, and he's staying well-compensated. He's in the upcoming "Jurassic World Rebirth," which is probably going to make a billion dollars worldwide and Ali better have gotten a sizeable check to lend his credibility and skill to that half-baked cinematic universe. As Ali has been doing his promotional work for "Rebirth", the topic of "Blade" has come up, and Ali has not equivocated.
Ali was laconic, but clear when the subject was broached to him on the Today Show. "Call Marvel," he first said. Then, when asked about when he might be ready to start finally shooting "Blade," Ali declared, "I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready."
So, in short, if you have the phone number of anybody over at Marvel, maybe shoot them a text and let them know Ali is ready to start filming "Blade," like, today. Or, we suppose you should call them instead. That's what Ali specified, after all.
