There are a lot of actors who’d love to get a coveted role in the MCU or James Gunn’s burgeoning DCU franchise. You not only get to play really cool characters, but you become a part of a family anchored by a dedicated fanbase. Geek conventions, merchandise, and all those perks of comic book film fame, plus a nice paycheck, sound like a dream. So it totally makes sense that Matthew Lillard is waiting for a phone call from his friend James Gunn because he wants to join the DCU.
As we already know, Lillard will be in the second season of the MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again. We will learn more about his character and what’s coming when that show hits Disney+ in 2026. But, at Los Angeles Comic Con 2026, Lillard admitted that he’s interested in reuniting with Gunn in the DCU. According to Variety, the pair previously worked together on Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
“It’s been a long time. I have wanted to be in a superhero world,” Lillard said to the audience. “I’ve wanted to be in [the DCU], if anyone’s curious. If you run into James Gunn, tell him I’m available.”
Well, he could probably just call Gunn and say that. It wouldn’t be shocking to see Lillard make a DCU appearance in some form, even if it is just a small cameo role. We wonder who he would play in that universe…
