Miranda Cosgrove shares her excitement for new 'iCarly' movie, says it "looks like it's happening"

Miranda Cosgrove has some exciting news for iCarly fans, who were left with a pretty huge cliffhanger after the reboot's third season finale.

"[The movie is] being written, which is really exciting," the actress shared with Entertainment Weekly. "And it looks like it's happening. I'm really excited."

Nickelodeon's iCarly premiered in 2007 and aired for a total of five seasons, concluding in 2012 and earning a huge fan base. Along with Cosgrove, the show starred Jennette McCurdy, Nathan Kress, and Jerry Trainor. The show was revived for its original audience in 2021 with Cosgrove, Kress, and Trainor all reprising their beloved roles. Many other familiar faces also returned, delighting fans.

Sadly, it was cancelled in 2023, leaving viewers in the dark as Carly and Spencer's mom, who was never in either series, shockingly appeared. However, she wasn't actually seen in the episode, so we still don't know what she looks like.

"We don't know who's going to play the mom character yet, but she's going to be a big part of the movie," Cosgrove commented. "That's exciting. We're just excited to start it and actually film."

Since iCarly was cancelled, the cast has been vocal about wanting to end the story properly. Last year, Cosgrove had told Entertainment Tonight, "I had a great experience getting to come back and do it for a few seasons, for sure. But I'd love to still be able to wrap up the story in some way," also adding, "I feel like it would probably be more along the lines of maybe a movie, that would kind of wrap it all up or something like that. So that's what I'm hoping for."

As for what she wanted to see if it was continued, she said, "I want to know who Carly's mother is as much as [fans do]. It seems like a lot of people were hoping to see that."

At the time of the cancellation, Laci Mosley, who joined as Harper, wrote, "The best people I’ve ever worked with in the business. Thank you for tuining in to the reboot. Everyone put their deeply kind talented souls into this."

iCarly is streaming on Paramount+.
