Who doesn’t love a horrifying alien species? The new Alien-Earth trailer is out and promises to deliver super scary species and lots of action. Yes, we’ve had a few good moments with aliens over the past decade or so, but these particular aliens rank high on the scariness scale. Let’s check out the premise and who is in this new series.
Set in the same universe as Alien, Alien-Earth takes place about 100 years in our future. It starts out with a mysterious space research vessel that crash-lands on Earth. The vessel is purportedly carrying some alien species. Uh oh.
Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler (Kyle Chandler’s daughter, who’s all grown up!), leads a tactical team to investigate the species. The team also deals with political and corporate challenges from large companies who have a stake in the planet’s future. Some of these aliens are the frightening Xenomorphs we all love to fear from the Alien franchise.
The damaged vessel carries five different species from far parts of the universe. Apparently, these species are hostile and predatory. In the Alien-Earth trailer, they are referred to as “invasive species.”
The Alien-Earth trailer brings action, chills, and edge-of-your-seat thrills. The special effects go above and beyond in what we’ve seen in many of the Alien films. A few things harken back to the original Alien flicks. We see Wendy wake up in a similar fashion to Dr. Ripley (played by Sigourney Weaver) in the first film. However, like its name, this Alien installment takes place on Earth.
Another moment in the Alien-Earth trailer that’s familiar is right at the end. This is the part when the Xenomorph alien looks to be slobbering its poisonous and vile saliva over its intended prey. Yikes. (Similar to Ripley in Alien.)
Besides Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, David Rhysdahl, and Timothy Olyphant (from Justified) round out the cast. One thing that’s interesting to note is in this iteration of the Alien saga, some of the human characters look to be a hybridization of human and synthetic.
The eight-episode series is created and produced by Noah Hawley. Hawley is best known for his work on the beloved dark comedy/thriller television series Fargo and Legion. Sir Ridley Scott will also be involved in the production with his company Scott Free. When it came to Hawley’s take on the franchise, Hawley told IndieWire:
I talked to Ridley. His company, Scott Free, is a producer on the show. And you know, Ridley is the man… He was very respectful of the fact that I seem to know what I’m doing, and I have my own take on it.
So after the excitement of the Alien-Earth trailer, we definitely want to see what’s in store for planet Earth! It has its premiere on Hulu on Tuesday, August 12th. Then it will be distributed to FX.
Alien-Earth trailer seeks to have not only the thrills, scary moments, and grotesque alien monsters from the past Alien movies, but also will likely involve feuding corporations. The series may show the underhanded tactics of soulless, large corporations looking to get their hooks in both the alien species and in planet Earth.
