Recently, we relayed the news that "Practical Magic 2" is happening, and it has a release date . The sequel to the cult favorite starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as witch sisters is slated to be released on September 18, 2026. Kidman brought up the film during a talk at Cannes, and while she didn't have a ton to say on it, the enthusiasm seems to be there.
The talk's moderator brought up working with female directors, and named Susanne Bier. Bier is stepping in to director "Practical Magic 2," and is a friend and former collaborator of Kidman. Upon the evocation of Bier's name, Kidman said:
Sandy’s worked with her, too, so the two of us were like, well, this is the perfect triangle because we all know each other so well and so to be able to work together on something that is fun and witchy.
Indeed, "Sandy" has worked with Bier, who directed "Bird Box." That movie is not particularly "fun," defining the word in this context as "light," but clearly both of the films stars like working with Bier.
It speaks to the cult status of "Practical Magic" that the main takeaway a lot of people had from Kidman at Cannes speaking at the Women in Motion talk about female directors was "'Practical Magic 2' is going to be fun!," but such is life in the world of intellectual property.
Get ready for a witchy, fun movie about witches having fun on September 18, 2026.
