Quentin Tarantino has said for years that once he directs 10 movies, he’s done. Then again, Tarantino is a man who loves to make declarations. If he does stick to it, though, that leaves him with one film to go. For a while, that was going to be 'The Movie Critic.' Not anymore. Tarantino has now explained why those plans have been scrapped.
Tarantino has said he isn’t “paralyzed with fear” about making his 10th and final movie. His now-shelved project, “The Movie Critic,” was set in 1977 Los Angeles. That, however, was part of the problem.
He had already taken on the challenge of recreating 1969 Los Angeles in 'Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood,' his acclaimed 2019 film and his most recent release. Having pulled that off, he found little appeal in staging another period version of the city.
“I wasn’t really excited about dramatizing what I wrote when I was in pre-production,” Tarantino said. “I already kind of knew, more or less, how to turn L.A. into an older time. It was too much like the last one.”
It’s no shock, then, that Tarantino penned a proper sequel to 'Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood' but handed it off to David Fincher to direct. 'The Adventures of Cliff Booth,' with Brad Pitt returning to his Oscar-winning role, is now in production. As for what Tarantino himself will make next, that’s still an open question.
