Every episode of Rick and Morty Season 8 has been an incredible experience. They’ve been fun, action-packed rides or emotional thought-provokers centered around family. And the season finale doesn’t disappoint, delivering a tale that’s a combination of both.
The episode focuses on Rick and his inability to move on from his past. At the same time, he must contend with another version of himself. And this other Rick hijacks Beth’s mind to turn her into his pawn. Ready to learn about what exactly happened in this intense season finale?
This Rick and Morty finale opens with Rick rejecting Buganne’s invitation to a family gathering. Afterwards, he and the Beths discover that Memory Rick invaded Jerry’s mind. The actual Rick manages to extract and isolate him in a separate ‘storage brain.’ Unfortunately, the younger Rick brainwashes Beth to rescue a memory of Diane. Space Beth and the real-life Rick soon catch on and work to save her.
This Rick and Morty finale centers around the difficulties of letting a loved one go. It also emphasizes how latching onto your past can cost you a better future. And how sometimes it can hurt the ones you care about.
Rick holding onto Diane was costing him a future with Buganne. So, despite it being hard emotionally, he let Diane go. Memory Rick, on the other hand, wanted to hold onto Diane by any means. Even if those methods almost cost Beth her life, despite his caring about her.
Overall, it’s okay to remember loved ones we’ve lost throughout our lives. Just don’t let those memories stop you from moving forward. Truly an incredible lesson to end the best Rick and Morty season yet with.
This newest Rick and Morty finale undeniably joins what I call the Perfect 10 Club! It’s filled with thrilling action and ends on a beautiful emotional note. It’s off-the-charts entertaining despite Morty playing no actual role throughout the episode. And, no lie, I almost cried when Rick and Beth embraced during the climax.
As for this season, it too gets a perfect 10! It showcases an overlapping theme of family and development regarding Rick’s character. I think I might be a Rick and Morty fan now. Because now I’m interested in seeing what happens in the upcoming ninth season.
