Salma Hayek says her greatest achievement in life has been watching her children grow up and become independent.
The 58-year-old actress has raised 18-year-old daughter Valentina with her husband, Kering CEO Francois-Henri Pinault, as well as be a stepmother to her spouse's three children, Francois, Mathilde and Augustin, from previous relationships. Francois and Mathilde's mother is Pinault's first wife Dorothée Lepère, while Augustin's mother is supermodel Linda Evangelista.
Salma insists seeing them all grow into fine young adults has made the decisions in her career - which saw her turn down many roles to ensure she was a present parent - to make her family her "priority" completely worthwhile.
Speaking to Italian publication IO Donna, she said: "All my children, not just Valentina, now they are all independent and I am happy about it. I have invested a lot of time in it. My family has always been a priority. You can see it in my career, in the last 18 years I have only chosen roles shot mostly in the summer and in Europe.
"I did not have to sacrifice anything, but only organise myself better."
Salma now has more time for work now her daughter is 18 and she is as motivated as ever to continue to create new shows and films for Latin audiences via her own independent production company Ventanarosa, which provided viewers with hit series 'Ugly Betty'.
She said: "I'm aware there is still so much to do. The certainty that every story I tell, every project I realise, can make a difference for someone else.
"I'm not interested in letting others know what I do for others, I am interested in just doing it. Change does not need advertising, it needs action. This has always guided me in life.
"I basically work day and night. During the day I give interviews, I do shootings or I have various meetings with the foundations I collaborate with; at night I am locked in the office with my production company because on the other side of the ocean it's daytime.
"Our latest project is a television adaptation of the popular 1989 novel 'Like Water for Chocolate' by Laura Esquivel: it took us six years to complete and when we consider that there are 600 million Spanish speakers in the world, it is easy to see the potential."

Steelers should pursue one of Aaron Rodgers' former targets to boost offense
The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently constructing the team's final roster for the 2025 season, which is one of the toughest decisions for every NFL organization. Players on the edge of rosters are traded from team to team, while other players are waived, allowing clubs to pick them up on the waiver wire. The Steelers will have a chance to do this, but it will be interesting to see what positions the franchise prioritizes before the start of the regular season. Wide receiver is a spot fans want to see upgraded, but the organization could also use some added depth on both sides of the ball. The Steelers could consider picking up many players who were released on Monday and Tuesday. However, there is an intriguing name available at wide receiver, Malachi Corley, a 2024 third-round pick, who was waived by the New York Jets on Tuesday. The Steelers had previously shown interest in him during the pre-draft process last year, but didn't have the chance to select him. Corley had immense potential coming out of college. He played at Western Kentucky, and over four seasons, caught 259 passes for over 3,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. His production was consistent, but he had some trouble transitioning to the NFL. It doesn't help that he went to a dysfunctional organization like the Jets, and a part of his release is the fact that a new regime took over in New York An obvious connection between Corley and the Steelers is with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It was reported that Rodgers wanted the Jets to draft Corley back in 2024, which likely influenced the organization's decision. He has some familiarity with the young receiver, and that could lead Rodgers to persuade Pittsburgh to bring him in. Corley had a rough rookie season as he struggled even to make it onto the football field, but a change of scenery and a new organization could play a role in helping him improve. Until the first three weeks of the regular season are over, the waiver wire goes in the order of the 2025 NFL Draft. After the first three weeks of the regular season, the standings are updated to reflect the current standings in the NFL. Pittsburgh has the 21st priority on the waiver wire. That means that 20 teams in front of them can submit a claim for Corley, or any other player Pittsburgh may be interested in. That cycle will then repeat itself, and that is how waived players end up on new rosters. Corley still has potential, and one of the 20 teams in front of Pittsburgh could try to grab him.
Keegan Bradley expected to make controversial Ryder Cup captain's pick
Keegan Bradley will announce his six captain's picks for the 2025 Ryder Cup on Wednesday, but we might already know the answer to the most glaring question he's facing. According to James Corrigan of The Telegraph, Bradley is expected to pick himself as a playing captain at Bethpage Black. If true, Bradley will become the first playing captain in the Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer in 1963. It went well for Team USA 62 years ago, as the Red, White and Blue cruised to a 23-9 victory against Team Great Britain at Atlanta Athletic Club. Palmer went 3-0-1 in his four matches that week. It probably isn't fair to compare Bradley's situation to Palmer's six decades ago. In fact, the Europeans will be delighted if the American captain brings his clubs to Long Island in September. "It’s the impossible job to do both," Sir Nick Faldo, Europe’s 2008 captain, told The Telegraph. "There’s so much attention needed. The fans will call him selfish for picking himself. Goodness knows what the media will say. You could regret it for the rest of your life. Look, you’ve got enough going on trying to win your match. We hope Bradley does... we hope he stays as captain and does two roles!" Rory McIlroy, who figures to be one of the stars on Team Europe in 2025, echoed the same sentiment. "I don't think you can do it," McIlroy told reporters ahead of the BMW Championship. "I just think the commitments that a captain has the week of—you think about the extra media that a captain has to do, you think about the extra meetings that the captains have to do with the vice captains, with the PGA of America, in Keegan's case, preparing your speech for the opening ceremony. There's a lot of things that people don't see that the captain does the week of the Ryder Cup, especially now that the Ryder Cup has become so big." At the same time, it's hard to argue that there are six options better than Bradley on the American side. The 39-year-old recorded 11 top-20 finishes in 21 starts this season, won the Travelers Championship in June and finished T7 at the Tour Championship. He currently ranks 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking and 18th in the Data Golf Rankings. If Bradley weren't the Team USA captain, he would be a lock for a wild-card spot on the team. The only factor holding him back is the uncertainty of pulling double duty, but that's what his vice captains are for. Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, Gary Woodland and Brandt Snedeker are more than capable of picking up the slack when Bradley is on the course. This decision is exactly what the Europeans were rooting for, but Bradley plays his best golf when he's doubted.
Former GM blasts Giants for not embracing 'best chance to win'
Ever since the opening night of the 2025 NFL Draft, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has repeatedly said that veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will start over rookie Jaxson Dart for the club's regular-season opener at the Washington Commanders on Sept. 7. However, former NFL general manager and current ESPN personality Mike Tannenbaum made it known during a Tuesday appearance on "SportsCenter" that he thinks the Giants are making a mistake following the team's three preseason victories. "Jaxson Dart, how soon does he start? If it was up to me, it would have been three months ago," Tannenbaum said during the segment, per Adam Zagoria of NJ Advance Media. "He has outplayed Russell Wilson. He is the best quarterback on the New York Giants. Every game he doesn’t start is, to me, not giving them the best chance to win. He has played with energy. He’s played with enthusiasm. Knows what to do. I think he should start." For an article published on Monday, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports gave Dart an "A+" grade for the rookie's three preseason performances and said that the 22-year-old "perfectly blended quick decision-making with an occasional dime down the field and added a sprinkle of his athleticism as a scrambler in all three contests." According to Fox Sports, Dart completed 32-of-47 passes for 372 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions over his three August appearances. He also contributed six carries for 52 yards and an additional score. To compare, Wilson connected on 10-of-14 pass attempts for 136 yards and an interception. That said, such stats are largely meaningless since Wilson and Dart were never competing for the starting job. Following the Giants' preseason finale versus the New England Patriots last week, Dart acknowledged that "Russ is the starter" and "has completely earned that role." Meanwhile, multiple stories shared throughout the summer have touched upon how Wilson has established himself as "a vocal leader in the meeting room and on the practice field" with the Giants. In time, Dart may receive opportunities to show that he gives the 2025 Giants "the best chance to win" meaningful games. Unless Wilson produces a nightmare performance at Washington's Northwest Stadium, he should remain atop the Big Blue depth chart through at least the start of the Giants' Week 2 game at the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 14.
Atlanta Falcons Surprisingly Cut Backup Quarterback
The Atlanta Falcons have until 4:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday to trim their roster down to 53 players. In the effort to shave down the roster, they made a surprising move. Third-string quarterback Easton Stick has been released, per NFL insider Ian Rapaport via X. Stick started in all three of Atlanta’s preseason games in 2025. He played his best game in week one of the preseason, against the Detroit Lions, going 15 of 18 (83.3%) with 149 passing yards and a touchdown pass to wide receiver Chris Blair. Stick had signed a one-year $1,337,500 contract with a $167,500 signing bonus and $567,000 guaranteed, per Spotrac. So the Falcons will be eating Stick’s guaranteed money in dead cap. They’re now down to three quarterbacks. They had three last year, but they moved on from Taylor Heinicke around the same time. It’s possible that they tried to find a deal and couldn’t. Atlanta began their first wave of cuts on Saturday, releasing 12 players, the most notable of which was recently signed defensive lineman Morgan Fox. The Falcons kicked off cut day by releasing undrafted free agent cornerback Cobee Bryant. Quarterback four, Emory Jones, suffered a concussion during Atlanta’s second preseason game against the Tennessee Titans. The Falcons signed Ben DiNucci and waived Jones prior to the final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. DiNucci played just two drives against the Cowboys and was one of Atlanta’s preliminary roster cuts on Saturday. Now with the release of Stick, the Falcons have just two quarterbacks on their roster: Michael Penix Jr and Kirk Cousins. Atlanta could bring back Jones to be their third and final quarterback once he is back from injury. However, Stick has outplayed Jones in both camp and during the preseason. Jones had just 65 passing yards during his two preseason games. Jones was listed behind Stick in all three of Atlanta’s preseason depth charts. It would be unusual for the team to pick Jones over Stick. Most likely, the Falcons will turn to other quarterbacks who were cut and are now on the market to fill their new quarterback three spot.
