The 25 best episodes of 'Better Call Saul,' ranked

Breaking Bad is an all-time great drama. Wanting to continue the story, they decided to create a spinoff. That spinoff is Better Call Saul. In the world of Breaking Bad, Saul Goodman is largely a comedic figure, which led many to believe it would be a comedic spinoff. While Better Call Saul has more humor than Breaking Bad, it’s still quite dramatic. Bob Odenkirk —  once best known for his comedy — has gotten Emmy nominations for his dramatic work. Now that six seasons of Better Call Saul have wrapped, here are the 25 best episodes of the show.

25. “Fifi”

“Fifi”
AMC

Everybody is on the top of their game in “Fifi.” Kim does a killer job getting the big Mesa Verde account, but then Chuck uses his weight to keep it with HHM. Jimmy, in turn, uses his lack of ethics to mess with Chuck to do a solid by Kim. Oh, he also sneaks onto an Air Force base to shoot an ad under false pretenses. Busy times for Jimmy.

24. “RICO”

“RICO”
AMC

We think of Saul Goodman as the amoral lawyer from Breaking Bad, or at least we did when season one began. In "RICO,” though, the man still known as Jimmy McGill is doing right by his clients. He is legitimately looking into elder abuse. Not bad for a guy who got his law degree from the University of American Samoa.

23. “Mabel”

“Mabel”
AMC

Season premieres of Better Call Saul are always interesting because we know we’re going to get a look at Cinnabon Gene, Jimmy/Saul’s lot in life after he has to disappear with the help of Ed in Breaking Bad. The flash-forward in “Mabel” may be the best of the bunch, where Gene points out a shoplifter to protect his identity. He also can’t help but yell legal advice to the shoplifter as he’s being escorted out of the mall.

22. “Off Brand”

“Off Brand”
AMC

Jimmy escapes disbarment, but this is one of the episodes that are more about Nacho. This is a big episode for him, as he becomes jaded by the drug game. This is also where he first sees his out, as he might be able to kill Hector Salamanca, though he will have to do it surreptitiously. We know what happens to Hector before Breaking Bad; this is the first time the pieces are put into place.

21. “Sunk Costs”

“Sunk Costs”
AMC

Mike is so clever in “Sunk Costs.” His ploy that gets Hector’s drivers arrested is practically a work of genius. Chuck thinks he’s been clever and, in a way, has been. He thinks he can push Jimmy into disbarment, but as you already know, Jimmy manages to avoid that. We’ll get into how later.

20. “Hero”

“Hero”
AMC

Early in Better Call Saul, Jimmy is trying not to, well, go full Saul. However, he can’t help himself from pushing the envelope a bit. In this episode, we see what’s at Jimmy’s core with a flashback to when he and his buddy Marco used to con people at a bar with a fake Rolex.

19. “Switch”

“Switch”
AMC

Is Jimmy done as a lawyer? He considers it in “Switch,” the second season premiere. Instead, he dreams of a life where he and Kim just pull cons. They con a jerk into buying their meal and drinks, and Jimmy just wants to chase that high. Kim has more grounded goals in life.

8 of 25

18. “50% Off”

“50% Off”
AMC

Saul Goodman is in full effect in “50% Off.” The title comes from the fact that Saul offers half prices on his legal services to new clients. We get a fun montage of two doofuses committing crimes left and right, figuring they will use Saul when they get arrested. It’s less fun when Nacho shows up looking for some legal help, though.

17. “Something Beautiful”

“Something Beautiful”
AMC

Jimmy has a somewhat more comedic story arc here involving trying to steal a high-priced Hummel figurine with the help of a sketchy dude named Ira. The real actions come via Nacho, who now has to play the Salamanacas and Gus Fring. This includes being shot to fake an ambush. It’s rather intense.

10 of 25

16. “Nailed”

“Nailed”
AMC

Jimmy and Chuck have a complicated relationship. They are starting to reach new levels here, but the brotherly relationship doesn’t go away entirely. Chuck is on Jimmy’s tail, so much so that Chuck goes to a copy store looking for evidence. While there, his medical condition leads to his fainting. Jimmy wants to intervene, but he’ll be found out if he does. It’s a rough place to be.

11 of 25

15. “Quite a Ride”

“Quite a Ride”
AMC

This is the first time we see a flash-forward that isn’t to Cinnabon Gene. Instead, we flash forward to what Jimmy was up to during the Breaking Bad episode “Ozymandias.” It’s intense and a great way to kick off an episode. That alone gets “Quite a Ride” onto this list.

12 of 25

14. “Klick”

“Klick”
AMC

The season two finale brings Gus Fring back into the fray, which pleased a lot of Breaking Bad fans. Hey, Gus is a great character. Jimmy also rushes into the copy store, as mentioned earlier, and feels guilty about what happened. We find out Chuck recorded Jimmy giving a confession, which he was doing to appease Chuck’s fragile mental state. Chuck, meanwhile, wants to destroy his brother. Sometimes it’s hard to parse who the worse McGill brother is.

13 of 25

13. “Marco”

“Marco”
AMC

Jimmy has an existential freakout in the season-one finale, not for the last time. Not sure about being a lawyer, he headed back to Cicero, Illinois, where he reunited with his old con partner Marco. They have a wild week of scamming and conning, which ends when Marco dies. This moment has a lasting impact on Jimmy, who effectively decides to break bad in the wake of his friend’s death.

14 of 25

12. “Gloves Off”

“Gloves Off”
AMC

Mike is a man who is willing to make sacrifices. He goes through all the possibilities in any plan. Here, Mike and Nacho are considering murdering Tuco, who you likely remember from Breaking Bad. Tuco is an unstable force in the world of the Albuquerque drug game. However, Mike realizes a hit would draw too much attention. Instead, Mike hits Tuco’s car and basically goads Tuco into beating him up. This gets Tuco hit with an assault with a deadly weapon charge, which lands him locked away in jail for quite some time.

11. “Uno”

“Uno”
AMC

This is the first episode of Better Call Saul. It starts to put the pieces in place. We get our first look at both Cinnabon Gene and Jimmy McGill. It’s all fresh and new, yet familiar. The show begins to justify why it exists, making it a worthwhile watch.

16 of 25

10. “JMM”

“JMM”
AMC

Jimmy and Kim get married! Sure, it’s not sweet. It’s actually an example of how toxic their relationship can be. So much of the fifth season is about Kim getting deeper into Jimmy’s “Saul Goodman” world. This is also a great episode for Gus, who helps Nacho meticulously burn down a Los Pollos Hermanos as part of Gus’ plan to keep Nacho as his informant.

17 of 25

9. “Fall”

“Fall”
AMC

This Sandpiper case that was Jimmy’s big lawsuit finally concludes here, though it takes a bit of manipulation. Not a moment too soon, either. In all her diligence, Kim is working two jobs to try and put money on the table while Jimmy can’t practice law. This episode ends with a heavy-duty bit of intensity as Kim falls asleep while driving and crashes her car. It’s shot excellently, like so much of Better Call Saul.

18 of 25

8. "Wiedersehen”

"Wiedersehen”
AMC

The second-to-last episode of the fourth season is about pieces being put into place. Jimmy’s appeal to have his suspension lifted is denied, so Kim tries to help Jimmy’s apology seem more sincere. Lalo has arrived, and we start to realize how clever and dangerous he is. He’s the one member of the Salamanca family with charisma and social skills. After so much drop-of-the-hat violence from that family, Lalo feels like a much-needed change of pace.

19 of 25

7. “Wexler v. Goodman”

“Wexler v. Goodman”
AMC

Kim is representing Mesa Verde. Saul is representing Everett Acker, a man who won’t move off his land so that Mesa Verde can build a new bank branch. Kim thinks she and Jimmy are working together, but Jimmy is in true Saul mode. He blindsides Kim, who realizes he used her like a sucker for his con. This is when Kim suggests they either break up or get married.

20 of 25

6. “Lantern”

“Lantern”
AMC

The journey of Jimmy and Chuck comes to an end. Chuck, having lost to Jimmy in his attempt to get him disbarred and having basically been forced out of HHM, has nothing left. This drives Chuck back to the peak of his mental illness, and the episode ends with Chuck, wrapped in his space blanket, kicking over a lantern to burn down his house with himself inside.

21 of 25

5. “Five-O”

“Five-O”
AMC

This is what many consider to be the first great Better Call Saul episode. It’s also one of the first episodes to focus on Mike. It’s a flashback that traces how he ends up in Albuquerque. It involves him killing some corrupt cops and avenging his son. Mike will never get over what happened, but we watch him take the full measures he needs.

22 of 25

4. “Something Unforgiveable”

“Something Unforgiveable”
AMC

The season-five finale is. Season five turned out to be a huge one for Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler. Given what we know about Saul from Breaking Bad, people imagined a world where Jimmy broke bad, went over the edge, and pushed Kim out of his list. The twist at the end of “Something Unforgiveable” is that Kim seems to be the one primed to break bad. Those finger guns stick with us.

23 of 25

3. “Winner”

“Winner”
AMC

Season four ends with Jimmy doing the Saul thing. He talks to a woman up for a scholarship in Chuck’s memory but knows that her shoplifting arrest from her childhood is keeping her from being considered. Jimmy advises that she has to do whatever it takes to get ahead because everybody else will try and keep her down. Jimmy also seemingly gives a sincere speech about his brother to get his suspension lifted. Then, Kim sees the façade drop. Jimmy was not being sincere and says he won’t practice law under the name Jimmy McGill anymore. It’s all good, man.

24 of 25

2. “Bagman”

“Bagman”
AMC

“Bagman” is the most Breaking Bad this show has ever gotten. It’s action-heavy and thrilling. That moment when Mike shoots the gunman in the car, and the vehicle flips in front of Saul. It’s a set piece for the ages.

25 of 25

1. “Chicanery”

“Chicanery”
AMC

A legal drama in miniature. We get the big battle between Jimmy and Chuck in Jimmy’s disciplinary hearing. It’s a battle of wits. We don’t know who is ahead. They go back and forth. In the end, Jimmy is able to trick Chuck into a freak-out. Jimmy used his knowledge of what makes Chuck tick to win. The look on Chuck’s face when he realizes Jimmy had gotten to him and won their showdown? It’s maybe the quintessential Better Call Saul moment.

Green Bay Packers Former 1st Round Pick Has Been The Star Of Training Camp

Green Bay Packers fans have every reason to feel optimistic as the team moves through training camp. One of the players everyone is keeping an eye on is edge rusher Lukas Van Ness. The former first-round pick is making waves with his standout performances in one-on-one drills and his growing potential as a dominant pass rusher. Throughout camp, Van Ness has been a consistent source of buzz, and it’s no surprise considering the raw talent and athletic energy he brings to the field. Green Bay Packers Lukas Van Ness Standing Out in Training Camp Training camp serves as the proving ground for rookies and veterans alike, and Lukas Van Ness is seizing the opportunity to showcase his growth. On just the third day of camp, Van Ness made headlines by going 3-0 in one-on-one pass-rushing drills. He demonstrated his ability to overpower opposing offensive linemen, including former first-round pick and teammate Jordan Morgan, who was twice bested in their matchups. These drills have been a reliable barometer for evaluating defensive linemen, and Van Ness has consistently stood out. His explosiveness off the line, combined with his refined upper-body strength, makes him nearly unguardable in short-yardage scenarios. This early knack for dominating such settings has coaches and players alike buzzing about what he can offer not only in practice but also when the curtain rises on the regular season. Filling a Key Role in the Packers’ Defense Lukas Van Ness’ immediate impact isn’t exactly what the Packers hoped for when they drafted him 13th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Van Ness has been largely a disappointment in his first two years. It is important for fans to remember that he was a project coming out of Iowa, and he may have just needed a little time to blossom into an elite pass rusher. His presence not only offers the potential for an improved pass rush but also adds an element of unpredictability to the Packers’ defensive line. Strengthening the Pass Rush The Packers’ pass rush has been inconsistent in recent years, largely due to injuries and personnel changes. Van Ness offers a solution. At 6’5” and 272 pounds, his mix of size, speed, and raw strength stands out even among NFL athletes. What’s more, his versatility allows him to line up both on the edge and along the interior defensive line. This flexibility enables defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to scheme more creatively, exploiting mismatches based on Van Ness’s ability to overwhelm blockers. His success in one-on-one drills suggests that Van Ness could quickly become a third-down menace—an edge rusher capable of collapsing pockets and forcing quick decisions from opposing quarterbacks. That’s a skill set the Packers desperately need in the NFC North, which features highly capable offenses led by players like Caleb Williams and Jared Goff. The Excitement Around Van Ness What makes Lukas Van Ness such an exciting prospect isn’t just his physical gifts; it’s also his work ethic and hunger to improve. Training camp reports note that Van Ness is constantly refining his techniques, working with coaches to expand his toolkit as a pass rusher. Chief among his attributes is his motor. Van Ness doesn’t quit on plays. Couple that relentless pursuit with his power and explosiveness, and you have a player who can make a difference on every snap. Even in drills, he’s consistently displayed drive and adaptability, reading offensive schemes and making rapid adjustments to cut off running lanes or disrupt passing plays. Team insiders compare his temperament to that of Rashan Gary, another high-energy player who developed into a key piece of Green Bay’s defense. If Van Ness follows a similar trajectory, it’s not hard to see the Packers’ defensive front emerging as one of the league’s most imposing units. Final Thoughts Lukas Van Ness has been one of the most exciting storylines of the Green Bay Packers’ training camp, and his standout performances are setting the stage for a successful third year. His dominance in drills and his opportunity to work with the first team have made it clear that he has the tools, energy, and potential to excel in Green Bay’s defense. If Van Ness can build on the momentum he’s created in camp, he won’t just be a bright spot this season—he’ll be a game-changer for years to come. Keep your eyes on No. 90 this season. If his training camp buzz is any indication, Lukas Van Ness is ready to make his mark.

Pitcher bizarrely faces old team on same day of trade

Seranthony Dominguez certainly had an eventful day on Tuesday. The veteran MLB reliever began the day on the Baltimore Orioles and was with his teammates in the dugout during the first leg of a doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays. The O's went on to win, 16-4, at Oriole Park in Baltimore, though Dominguez did not pitch during the game. But the day took a bizarre turn when the two teams agreed to a deal in the middle of the doubleheader. The Orioles traded Dominguez to the Blue Jays in exchange for minor league pitcher Juaron Watts-Brown. That led to a strange scene where Dominguez switched clubhouses after being traded, walking across the hallway to get to the Toronto side. Things got even weirder during the second leg of the doubleheader. Dominguez got the call to pitch for the Blue Jays against his former team. He had to walk past his ex-Baltimore teammates to get to the Toronto bullpen, and then entered the game in the seventh inning to pitch. Here is the unusual spectacle that saw Dominguez pitch against the guys that he began the day as teammates with. The whole thing was so bizarre that it even looked like Dominguez received a hastily-made Blue Jays jersey with the “8” in his No. 48 apparently stuck on backwards. Dominguez, a 30-year-old in his seventh MLB season, ended up striking out two in a scoreless frame against his former team. We have certainly seen instances of MLB players getting traded in the middle of games before, but that had to be the first instance of a player starting the first half of a doubleheader on one team and then pitching in the second half for the other team.

Steelers reporter shares big claim about how Aaron Rodgers has looked in training camp

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers spent the bulk of the spring as an unsigned free agent and, thus, only began officially practicing with Pittsburgh Steelers teammates during the team's three-day mandatory minicamp in June. During a Monday appearance on Pittsburgh radio station 102.5 WDVE, Steelers reporter Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette addressed how Rodgers looked during his first few training camp practices with the club. "His release is just astonishing to watch," Dulac said about Rodgers, as shared by Ross McCorkle of Steelers Depot. "Everybody knows about it, and when you see it in person, you see it every day in practice, you just marvel at it. To me, he's the greatest thrower of the football I have ever seen, even at 41 (years old). That flick of that wrist and that ball comes out, it's moving and it is something to see." Rodgers was with the New York Jets when he suffered a torn Achilles four offensive snaps into the 2023 regular-season opener. He was then slowed by a nagging hip issue, injuries to both his knees, a low ankle sprain and a serious hamstring problem as the 2024 Jets went 5-12. According to Pro Football Reference, Rodgers finished last season ranked 28th in the NFL among qualified players with a 48.0 adjusted QBR and 26th with a 43.9 percent passing success rate. That said, he was also eighth with 3,897 passing yards and tied for seventh with 28 passing touchdowns. Rodgers and Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson endured some struggles during training camp sessions last summer before the two allegedly "never saw eye-to-eye" during the season. It sounds like Pittsburgh fans should be encouraged by how Rodgers performed in recent practices. "That guy can get rid of the ball as quick as anybody," Dulac added. "He made three throws in seven-on-seven (drills) the other day that the cumulative total I bet couldn't have exceeded 2.1 seconds. And two of those were for touchdowns." Rodgers wants to finish his career "the right way" and help the Steelers notch at least their first playoff win since January 2017. As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Pittsburgh at -150 betting odds to miss the playoffs for the upcoming season.

Red Sox Targeting All-Star Starter At 'Annoying Level'

Red Sox Targeting All-Star Starter At 'Annoying Level'

It certainly seems like the Boston Red Sox are putting their best foot forward to acquire one of the top starting pitchers potentially on the trade block. The Red Sox kicked off a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins on Monday. It wasn't a great night for Boston full of wild weather, a last-second rain delay, and another walk-off loss. The timing of the series certainly is interesting. The series will end on Wednesday and then Boston will have a day off on Thursday which also is the day of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline. Boston is getting some face time with the Twins right now and it sounds like the Red Sox are targeting one of the club's All-Stars. The Athletic's Jim Bowen reported a handful of teams are calling Minnesota at an "annoying level" for ace Joe Ryan. "The Red Sox, (New York Yankees), (Toronto Blue Jays), (Philadelphia Phillies), and (Seattle Mariners) are speed dialing the Twins at an annoying level with continued interest in Joe Ryan, basically their whole bullpen, Willi Castro and Harrison Bader," Bowden said. "Twins could end up being the headliner at the deadline as talks heat up according to sources." Ryan has a 2.82 ERA this season across 121 1/3 innings pitched. On top of this, Ryan still has two more seasons of arbitration-eligibility. He's the type of pitcher who could help Boston now and into the future. That's why he's a perfect fit, but he also would cost an arm and a leg, especially with all of the suitors for him.
