They may have run out of John Rambo movies starring Sylvester Stallone, but no franchise seems to retire for good anymore. And with 2019’s ‘Rambo: Last Blood’ widely panned, a fresh take might be welcome. Without Stallone, the path back to the world of Rambo is through a prequel.
‘John Rambo’ is in the works, with plans to begin filming in Thailand in 2026. It now appears the movie has found its lead.
Noah Centineo is reportedly set to take on the role of John Rambo. For what it’s worth, Sylvester Stallone has no involvement in the project, so Centineo is not an officially anointed successor.
Centineo first broke out in the romantic comedy space with the ‘To All the Boys I Loved Before’ series. More recently, he has shifted toward action-heavy roles, starring in the Netflix series ‘The Recruit’ and appearing in the 2025 film ‘Warfare.’ He is also slated to play Ken in the upcoming ‘Street Fighter’ movie.
Centineo has experience with guns-and-war roles, which is central to the Rambo franchise. As a prequel, the film will almost certainly be set during the Vietnam War as John Rambo remains one of cinema’s most famous Vietnam veterans.
Will Centineo make a good Rambo? At the very least, he will make a less-jacked one.
