Tom Holland unintentionally manifested Sony's forthcoming Uncharted prequel.
"I had a meeting, after or during Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home], with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with," the 25-year-old British actor explained to Total Film. "It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested."
"The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games," Holland continued. "And that opened a conversation."
Holland was first linked to play Nathan Drake in Uncharted in May 2017.
The official trailer was finally unveiled in October:
And another trailer to end December:
"Street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor 'Sully' Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago," the official description teases. "What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother...but only if they can learn to work together."
Of course, avid players of the video game franchise by the same name already know what to expect once Uncharted hits theaters Feb. 18.
